So, I wanted to share a fun little project I took on recently. I’ve always been a fan of street photography, especially in a city as vibrant as New York. That’s why I decided to go on a journey to take photos in 5th avenue and find the famous fashion street photographer, Yuta Powell. I mean, who wouldn’t be, right? So I started with planning who is this guy and where can I find him.

I found out that Yuta Powell’s salon is located at 19 E 75th St, New York. A veteran of the fashion world, this guy is a big deal! It was not easy to find his information but after some digging, I got his number as well.
With that in mind, I packed my bag and headed to the heart of NYC, starting from 58th Street down to 53rd Street. Man, those streets are bustling! Every corner has something going on; it’s a photographer’s dream.
I wanted to make sure my shots were decent, so I played around with my camera settings a bit. Finally, I landed on an aperture of F4, a shutter speed between 1/250 and 1/400, and adjusted my ISO based on the light. It seemed like a good starting point, especially for capturing moving subjects on the busy streets.
Now, let me tell you about finding Yuta Powell. I asked around, checked some social media groups, and even looked up a few local photography studios. It’s all about who you know, you know? After gathering some intel, I finally found him. Before meeting, I did my homework — checked out his online portfolio and read some reviews. Gotta make sure you’re dealing with the real deal, right?
We set up a meeting to chat about my project. Discussed all the nitty-gritty details, like pricing and what I was hoping to achieve. It’s important to be on the same page from the get-go. We had a long talk and he gave me some tips I wanted to share.

- When taking photos, pay attention to the light direction. Don’t point your camera directly at the light unless you’re going for a silhouette effect.
- Keep an eye on your own shadow. It’s the little things that can make or break a shot.
The Real Work
With all the prep work done, I finally went and took a whole bunch of photos in the street. After taking photos and while walking around, I saw a dress form with a stunning red evening gown. Turns out, it was the entrance to Yuta Powell’s salon at the Hotel Plaza Athne. Talk about a grand entrance!
This whole experience was a blast. From walking the streets of New York to meeting a seasoned pro like Yuta Powell, it was an experience for the books. It’s not just about the photos; it’s about the people you meet and the stories you gather along the way. And hey, getting to up my photography game? That’s the cherry on top.
