My Little Adventure: Getting the Moonswatch ‘Mission to Earth’

Alright, let’s talk about this whole Moonswatch thing. You’ve seen it everywhere, right? The big collaboration, Omega style Swatch prices. Caused quite a stir. Honestly, I saw the initial madness, the queues, people going nuts online, and I thought, ‘Nah, not for me’. Too much hype, usually means disappointment.

But then, I kept seeing pictures of the ‘Mission to Earth’ one. Don’t know why, maybe the colors? That deep blue, the kind of khaki-green accents. It just looked… neat. Different from the usual stuff I wear. It sort of stuck in my brain, you know how that happens? You try to ignore it, but it keeps popping up.

So, one day, I figured, what the heck. I was near a Swatch store anyway, might as well see what the fuss was about in person. This wasn’t launch day or anything, just a random Tuesday. Walked in. Still busy, but not the chaos I saw in the news.

Looked around, saw the display case with all the different ‘missions’. Pointed at the Earth one. Asked the person working there, “Any chance you actually have that one in stock?” Fully expected them to laugh or just say no. It seemed like these things were rarer than hen’s teeth based on what you read online.

Here’s where it got interesting. The staff member, nice young chap, didn’t say no immediately. He said, “Let me check in the back.” My hopes weren’t high. Figured it was the standard response. Stood there for a few minutes, looking at the other watches.

Then he comes back out, holding the box. The ‘Mission to Earth’ box. Said they’d just gotten a small shipment in, and this was the last Earth one they had right then. Couldn’t quite believe it. No queue, no drama, just walked in and asked. Felt like I’d found a secret shortcut.

  • Grabbed it straight away, obviously.
  • Paid the standard price, no messing about.
  • Walked out with it feeling slightly smug, I admit.

Got home and unboxed it. The packaging is clever, I’ll give them that. The watch itself? It’s light. Like, really light. That ‘Bioceramic’ material feels unique. Doesn’t feel like metal, doesn’t quite feel like normal plastic either. It’s… different. Comfortable, though.

The colors look just as good in person as they did online. The blue dial, the green case and subdials. It’s a striking look. The strap is okay, maybe a bit stiff, but it does the job. Might swap it out later, we’ll see.

So, the experience of wearing it? It’s fun. It’s definitely a conversation starter. People notice it. Had a few folks ask, “Is that the Moonswatch?”. It’s just a bit of fun on the wrist. It tells the time, the chronograph works (pushed the buttons, they clicked, hands moved, good enough for me). It’s not trying to be a luxury piece, and that’s fine. It’s a Swatch with a cool story and design.

Overall, happy I picked it up. Especially happy I didn’t have to go through hoops or pay silly money for it. Just needed a bit of luck and being in the right place at the right time. Sometimes, things just work out. Now, it’s part of the collection, a reminder of that little bit of unexpected luck on a random Tuesday.
