So, I started seeing these ivory dunks popping up everywhere online. You know how it is, you see something enough times, and it kinda grows on you. They looked clean, really simple, versatile. I thought, yeah, I could definitely use a pair like that. Wouldn’t mind adding them to the rotation. Seemed straightforward enough at the time. Boy, was I wrong.

Getting Started – Or Trying To
First thing I did was check all the usual places online. The main brand app, maybe some of the big sneaker retailer sites. Just kept hitting refresh, hoping for a restock or something. Nothing. Always showed ‘sold out’. It felt like you needed some secret password or ninja reflexes just to get past the loading screen. Pretty sure bots snag everything nanoseconds after they drop.
I even tried setting up alerts on a couple of apps. Got up early one Saturday morning because there was supposed to be a release. Had the app open, fingers ready. Heart pounding a bit, which felt kinda silly for shoes. And then… poof. Gone. Literally vanished in less time than it takes to blink. After maybe the third or fourth time experiencing that same instant disappointment, I started feeling pretty defeated.
Okay, Plan B: The Wild West of Resale
Alright, so getting them the normal way was clearly not happening. Time to look at the resale market, I thought. Places like StockX, GOAT, even eBay. And wow, the prices were just… a shock. Easily double what they originally cost, sometimes way more. For a pair of sneakers! Made out of regular materials! The whole thing felt kinda nuts.
I spent a good few evenings just scrolling, looking at listings. Comparing prices, checking seller ratings. Some looked legit, but plenty seemed questionable. Weird photos, sellers with hardly any history. It felt like walking through a minefield trying to avoid fakes or scams. Almost clicked ‘buy’ on one pair that seemed okay-ish priced, but then I hesitated. Read too many bad stories online. Decided it wasn’t worth the gamble, not for that much money and stress.
What I Learned (My “Practice” I Guess)
This whole quest for the ivory dunks turned into this weird little exercise. A practice in patience? Maybe more like a practice in dealing with constant letdowns. Here’s kinda what I took away from it all:
- Trying to buy popular sneakers directly when they release is pretty much like playing the lottery. Your chances are slim.
- The resale world is a whole different beast. Expensive, and you really have to trust who you’re buying from.
- Maybe, just maybe, I didn’t need those exact ivory dunks quite as badly as I thought I did when I started.
In the end, I just kinda gave up on that specific pair. Found some other Dunks later on, different color, much easier to get. And you know what? They look great too. I still think the ivory ones are nice to look at, but the whole process, the chase, the hype? It just sucked the fun out of it. Felt less like trying to buy something I liked and more like getting tangled up in some weird game. All that effort, all that screen time… for what? Just to feel annoyed? Nah. So that’s my story with the ivory dunks. A lot of running around, and mostly what I got out of it was this story and a reminder to chill out about hype.
