Alright, so I finally got around to checking out that Made Market event over at the Doubletree last weekend. Heard some buzz, figured why not, you know? Needed to get out of the house anyway.

Getting Myself Over There

Getting there was easy enough, the Doubletree isn’t far. Parking, though? Always a bit of a gamble with hotel events. Found a spot eventually, but had to walk a bit. Went inside, and honestly, finding the actual market space took a second. Hotels are like mazes sometimes, right? Lots of signs for conferences and weddings, but the market one was kinda tucked away. Followed the trickle of people who looked like they knew where they were going.

Wandering Through the Stalls

It was in one of their big ballrooms. Walked in, and yeah, it was pretty packed. Lots of little tables set up, folks selling all sorts of handmade things. You had your usual suspects:

  • Lots of jewelry – some nice, some kinda flimsy looking.
  • Candles, soaps, that sort of stuff. Smelled nice, at least.
  • Some pottery things, mugs and bowls.
  • Artwork, prints, couple of people doing custom drawings.

I just kinda wandered up and down the aisles. Picked up a few things, looked at the prices. Some stuff seemed fair, other things… well, let’s just say you’re paying for the ‘handmade’ part. Talked to one lady selling knitted hats for a minute. She was nice, told me how long each one takes. Takes dedication, I guess.

The Vibe and What I Actually Did

The atmosphere was okay. Busy, lots of chatter. Felt a bit like controlled chaos. Saw a few things I thought were neat. There was this one stall with cutting boards made from really interesting wood. Almost bought one. Held it, felt the weight. It was solid. But then I thought, do I really need another cutting board? Nah. Put it back down.

Didn’t end up buying anything, actually. Just wasn’t grabbing me that day. Sometimes you go to these things looking for something specific, or hoping to be inspired, and other times you’re just… looking. This was more of a ‘just looking’ day.

Wrapping It Up

So yeah, spent about an hour there, maybe a bit more. Walked around, saw the crafts, dodged the crowds, and headed back out. It was an experience, you know? Passed an afternoon. Glad I went to see what it was about, but probably wouldn’t rush back unless a friend was selling something there. Just another market, really, but hey, it was at the Doubletree.
