You know what I’m talking about, that magazine, Playgirl. Yeah, that’s the one. Heard some folks talking ’bout it down at the market the other day. Got me thinking. Back in my day, we didn’t have nothing like that. All these pictures, all these, well, you know… centerfolds. It’s a whole different world now, ain’t it?
These young folks today, they got it all figured out, don’t they? They got their magazines, their Playgirl centerfolds, all that stuff. I reckon it’s something they like to look at. I heard they even sell these things! Imagine that, selling pictures. They say some of those old ones are worth something now, those vintage Playgirl magazines. Like some old treasure hidden in the attic, they talk about it. They call it resale, like selling the old churn or something. It’s crazy what people will pay for, ain’t it?
They started that magazine way back, 1973 I heard. Fifty years ago! Can you believe it? Playgirl’s 50th anniversary, they say. They even made a big fancy book about it, a coffee-table book. Like it’s some kind of history. Playgirl: The Official History of a Cult Magazine, that’s what they called it. They say it’s a cult thing. I don’t know about all that, but I guess some folks really like it.
I heard they stopped making them for a while, back in 2016, that Playgirl magazine. Final issue, they said. But then they started it up again. Like weeds, these things, they just keep coming back. They say it’s changed now, that magazine. Different times, different folks. But it’s still got those pictures, those Playgirl centerfolds. That’s what people want, I guess.
These young’uns, they like to collect things. Like those old baseball cards, or those stamps. Now they collect these magazines. They say they’re worth money. I seen some selling a whole bunch of them together, a lot of Playgirl magazines, they call it. From the 1980s, the 2000s. All those years, they save them up. They say the covers are pretty, those Playgirl front covers. And those centerfolds, they say they’d look good framed. Like a picture on the wall! Can you imagine?

Back when I was a girl, we didn’t have none of that. We had our chores, our work. We didn’t have time for looking at pictures in magazines. We had to tend to the garden, feed the chickens. Life was simpler then, I reckon. But these young folks, they like their pictures. They like those Playgirl centerfolds. They say it is some kind of sexual revolution. I don’t know what these words mean. But people always like these kind of things.
I guess it’s just the way things are now. Everything changes. You can’t stop time, can you? These magazines, they’re just a part of it all, I suppose. A part of this new world. A world with Playgirl and all those pictures. It is just like the other magazine, Playboy, I think. That one is also very famous, and also very old. Some vintage Playboys are also very expensive, I heard.
This man, Lambert, he didn’t like this idea at first, that Playgirl magazine. But then, the world is changing. He has to change too, I think. So he agreed. I don’t know who he is, but I heard people talking about him. He is related to this magazine.
They talk about it like it’s something special, that Playgirl magazine. Like it’s a piece of history. Well, maybe it is, in its own way. A piece of how things changed. How people changed. It is one of the most famous magazine, they say. Very iconic. I don’t know this word, but it sounds very big.
Anyway, that’s what I heard down at the market. Just folks talking. Thought I’d share it with you. It’s a different world, that’s for sure. A world with Playgirl centerfolds and all that. A world I don’t really understand, but it’s their world now. And they sure seem to like those pictures. Who am I to judge, right? Live and let live, that’s what I always say. They say it will become treasure in the future. I don’t know. Maybe they are right.
