Okay, so I saw this “black honey” lip oil thing trending, and you know me, I had to try it. I’m always on the hunt for something that’s moisturizing but not sticky, and this seemed to fit the bill, plus, that color! Intrigued.

The Hunt
First, I tried to find an actual product called “black honey lip oil.” No luck. Seems like it’s more of a DIY project, recreating the vibe of that famous Clinique lipstick. Alright, challenge accepted.
Gathering Supplies
I dug through my stash and found a few things:
- A clear lip oil base – I think I got this one from a subscription box ages ago. It’s pretty basic, just a simple, hydrating oil.
- An old, almost-empty tube of that Clinique Black Honey lipstick. I knew I kept this for a reason!
- A tiny little jar – had some leftover eye cream in it, perfect size.
- A toothpick – for mixing, obviously. Gotta stay sanitary.
The Mixing Process
This is where it got a little messy. I scooped out the last bits of the Black Honey lipstick with the toothpick. It was pretty satisfying, getting every last bit. Then, I squirted a generous amount of the clear lip oil into the little jar.
Next, I added the lipstick scrapings to the oil. The color looked so dark in the jar! I started stirring with the toothpick, and it took a while to get everything evenly mixed. It was like swirling paint, watching the color slowly blend in. It was a little streaky at first, but I just kept mixing.
The Result
Honestly, it turned out pretty good! The color is sheer, but definitely there. It’s that same your-lips-but-better shade that Black Honey is famous for, but with a glossy, oily finish. It feels super hydrating on my lips, not sticky at all.

I swiped some on and was pretty pleased. It’s that perfect, subtle hint of color. It’s not as dark as it looks in the jar, which is good. It’s more like a tinted balm, but with the benefits of an oil. My lips felt instantly softer and smoother. I’ve been wearing it all day, and I’m kind of obsessed. I’ll definitely be making another batch when this one runs out!
