What makes Copenhagen 108 a popular choice? Learn about its food philosophy and must try items.

So, I ended up checking out this place called 108 while I was in Copenhagen. Heard some buzz, you know, people talking about it being connected to Noma but more laid-back. Figured I should see what that was all about myself.

Getting there wasn’t too bad. It’s near the water, kinda in that Christianshavn area. Didn’t need a super fancy reservation weeks in advance, which was nice. Just sort of planned it a few days before. Walked over, the area itself is pretty cool to wander through.

What it was like inside

The place felt pretty relaxed when I walked in. Not stuffy like some high-end spots can be. More like a neighborhood joint, but definitely with a bit of style. Lots of wood, simple tables. It had a good energy, busy but not chaotic.

I sat down and looked over the menu. They had this à la carte thing going on, which I prefer sometimes. Means you can just pick what sounds good without committing to a massive tasting menu. They also had a family-style sharing option, but I was just doing my own thing.

Food and Stuff

Okay, so the food. I decided to try a few different things.

  • Started with some sort of fermented flatbread thing. Sounds weird, tasted pretty good. Different.
  • Then had this dish with some greens and a sauce. Honestly, can’t remember the exact fancy name, but it was fresh. They seem big on fermentation and using local stuff.
  • Tried a meat dish too. Cooked really well, tender. Simple presentation, which I appreciate. They weren’t trying too hard to make it look like art, just good food.

The service was alright. Staff were young, seemed busy, but got the job done. Not overly chatty, but efficient enough. Got my food, got my drinks, no major hiccups.

One thing I noticed was the focus on specific ingredients. Like they really wanted you to taste that particular vegetable or whatever. Sometimes it worked great, other times maybe a bit plain for my liking, but I respect the idea.

Drank some natural wine. They had a decent list. Again, fits that whole vibe they’re going for. It was interesting, paired okay with the food.

Wrapping Up

So yeah, that was my trip to 108. It was a solid meal. Not mind-blowing, maybe my expectations were skewed because of the Noma connection, but definitely enjoyable. It felt like a genuine Copenhagen spot – modern, focused on ingredients, kind of understated.

Was it worth it? Yeah, I think so. Good place to go if you want something a step up from casual but not full-on fine dining craziness. It’s straightforward food done well, in a cool setting. Left feeling satisfied, which is pretty much what you want, right?
