Okay, so I finally tried doing tiny box braids! Been seeing them everywhere and thought, “Why not?” Here’s how it went down.
Prep Work: The Wash & Blow Dry
- First off, gotta start with clean hair. Washed my hair with a clarifying shampoo to get rid of all the gunk.
- Deep conditioned for about 20 minutes. You need that moisture, trust me.
- Blew it dry. Made sure it was stretched out as much as possible. This part is key for neat braids.
Gathering Supplies: Hair & More Hair
- I bought like, six packs of braiding hair. I went for the pre-stretched kind ’cause I’m lazy like that.
- Grabbed my rat-tail comb, edge control (because edges!), braiding gel, and some clips to keep sections separate.
The Braiding Begins: Sectioning Is Key!
- Alright, this is where the patience comes in. Sectioned off a small square in the back. Seriously, TINY.
- Applied some braiding gel to the root. This helps with grip and keeps the flyaways down.
- Braid, braid, braid! Making sure to keep the tension even. Not too tight, not too loose.
Repeat x a Million: Braiding the Whole Head
This took FOREVER. Like, seriously, I’m not even kidding. I’m talking multiple days, watching entire seasons of shows while braiding. Breaks are essential, people. Your fingers WILL get tired.
Finishing Touches: Dipping & Styling
- Once I was finally, FINALLY done braiding, I dipped the ends in hot water to seal them. Be careful not to burn yourself!
- Trimmed any crazy flyaways. Gotta keep it neat.
- Added some mousse to define the braids and give them some shine.
- Styled it however I wanted! High ponytail, space buns, you name it.
The Result: Worth It?
Honestly? They look amazing! Super lightweight and versatile. But man, that took some serious dedication. Would I do it again? Maybe. But definitely not anytime soon. My fingers need a vacation.
