What Are Double Hair Buns Called? Fun Names & Cute Styles Explained!

Okay so this morning I totally needed to do something cute with my hair fast. I was running late, you know how it goes. Scrambling for a hairdo idea, I remembered seeing those super cute double buns online. Figured, why not try it myself? Let’s see what this double hair bun thing is actually called.

Getting Started (AKA The Slightly Chaotic Part)

First thing? Grabbed my brush and tangled mess of hair. No fancy salon prep, just my regular bathroom mirror situation. Split my hair straight down the middle – tried making the part super clean, but honestly, it ended up a bit wonky. Oh well!

Sectioned off one side near my ear, twisted it up kinda tight, and started wrapping it around itself. Felt a bit like rolling dough! Secured it with a hair tie. Did the same thing on the other side. Looked in the mirror… and immediately giggled. They were seriously uneven. One bun sat high and perky, the other kinda slumped low like it was tired. Total lopsided panda vibe.

Figuring Out the Name Game

Because they looked so ridiculous, I decided to actually search what these things are called. My brain was just saying “two buns.” Super creative, I know.

My mind was slightly blown realizing people call them so many different things!

Fixing the Wonkiness (Trying To, Anyway)

Back to the mirror with my slightly sad looking buns. Unraveled the lower one and re-did it, pulling it higher to sort-of match the other. Used a few bobby pins to stab into the loose bits that kept escaping. Seriously, why does hair always rebel?

This time? Actually wearable! Still not perfect symmetry, but that’s just life with my hair. Added a couple of tiny colorful clips near each bun for a bit of extra fun.

The Final Verdict (and My Husband’s Commentary)

Walked out to the living room. “What do you call these?” I asked my husband, pointing at my head.

He squinted. “Uh… Mickey Mouse ears?”

🙄 Men. Should’ve known! So yeah, guess you can add “Mickey Mouse Buns” to the list too!

Overall? It’s a surprisingly fast and fun style once you stop fighting the flyaways. Space Buns sounds the coolest to me, Piggy Buns is silly and sweet, and Odango has that interesting background. Who knew two hair balls could have so many names? Lesson learned: sometimes the simplest hairstyles have the most personalities!
