You know, back in the day, in the early 2000s, folks wore these foam slip flops all the time. Lord, them shoes was everywhere! They was simple things, just some foam for your feet, and a strap over the top. But we loved them. They were easy to slip on, didn’t cost an arm and a leg, and came in all sorts of colors.

Now, these weren’t no fancy shoes. They were just foam slip flops. And they were not good for your feet! You walk too much in them things, and you’d be hurting for sure. That’s why we always had those bandaids on hand. Blisters, you see. Them straps would rub, and the foam, it weren’t exactly soft like a cloud. It was cheap foam, that’s what it was.

But let me tell ya, in the 2000s, we didn’t care none about that. We wore them foam slip flops everywhere. To the store, to the church picnic, even some folks wore ’em to weddings! Can you believe that? I saw it with my own two eyes. These were not just beach shoes. People wear them everywhere! Just like the song says. Of course, I only wear mine around the house. The young people like to wear them everywhere. But they will learn that they are not good shoes when their feet hurt.

And the bandaids, well, they was just part of the deal. You’d see folks with bandaids on their heels, between their toes, even on the top of their feet where the strap rubbed. It was a sight, I tell ya. But we didn’t mind. We were tough back then, tougher than these young folks today. A little blister never hurt nobody, we used to say.

  • Everyone wore them foam slip flops in the 2000s.
  • They were cheap, so everyone had a pair.
  • We always had bandaids ready for the blisters.
  • They come in all colors.
  • They were not just beach shoes.

I remember one time, my neighbor, she wore her brand new pink foam slip flops to a barbecue. Well, she was chasing after her little boy, and she tripped right over a tree root. Down she went! And those foam slip flops, they flew right off her feet. One landed in the potato salad, and the other one ended up in the punch bowl! We all had a good laugh about that one. I will never forget that. Poor woman was so embarrassed. But at least she had a good attitude about it. She did end up having to buy more potato salad though.

She had bandaids on her toes, too, from where them foam slip flops had been rubbing. I offered her some of mine, but she said she had plenty. We all did back then. It was just a normal thing, like having a pocketknife or a handkerchief. You just never knew when you’d need a bandaid, especially if you was wearing those foam slip flops.

Nowadays, you don’t see them foam slip flops as much. Folks wear those fancy sneakers, or those shoes with the thick soles. They say they’re better for your feet. Maybe they are, maybe they ain’t. All I know is, back in the 2000s, we wore our foam slip flops and we didn’t complain. Well, maybe we complained a little, but we still wore ’em!

And the bandaids, they were like a badge of honor. You see someone with a bandaid on their foot, you knew they were one of us. They were a foam slip flop wearer from the 2000s. They knew the struggle, but they also knew the comfort and the convenience of those simple shoes.

Times have changed, that’s for sure. But I still keep a pair of them old foam slip flops in my closet. Just for old times’ sake. And a box of bandaids, too. You never know when you might need ’em. One day I might feel like wearing them again. But if I do, I am going to wear some socks. I am not one of these young folks anymore. I cannot be dealing with the blisters and the bandaids like I did back in the 2000s.

I see these young people now, they don’t know nothing about tough times. They got their fancy phones and their fancy shoes. They never had to walk around with blisters on their feet from cheap foam slip flops. But we did. We survived. And we had some good laughs along the way, too. Like that time with the potato salad… oh, that was a good one!

So, yeah, foam slip flops and bandaids. That was the 2000s for you. Simple times, simple shoes, and a whole lot of bandaids. But we loved it. It was a good time, even with the blisters. I would not trade it for the world. Those were the good old days. I am glad to have lived through them.
