So, I’ve always been kinda clumsy with styling my hair. But lately, I’ve been wanting to try curling it back, away from my face, for that kind of breezy, effortless look. I tried a few times, and let me tell you, it was a mess at first. But I didn’t give up, and I think I’ve finally figured it out. I just want to share how I did it, from my clumsy beginnings to getting it somewhat right.

Getting Started

First, I gathered my stuff. I used my trusty old curling iron, nothing fancy. Heat protectant spray is a must, ’cause I don’t want to fry my hair. I also grabbed a bunch of hair clips to section off my hair and a comb. I just watched a random video on the internet about how to curl hair.

Trial and Error

  • First Try: Total disaster. I started by just grabbing random chunks of hair and wrapping them around the iron. The curls were all over the place, some going forward, some going back. I looked like a mess.
  • Second Try: I tried sectioning my hair this time. I clipped up the top layers and started with the bottom layer. This was a bit better, but I was still curling some sections forward. It was better than the first try, but still not what I wanted. I felt a little frustrated, but I know I can’t give up.
  • Third Try: I started paying more attention to how I was holding the curling iron. I made sure to hold it horizontally and wrap the hair around it, going away from my face. I worked in small sections, taking my time with each curl.

Figuring It Out

The key, I realized, is to keep the iron horizontal and wrap the hair back, away from your face. It feels a bit awkward at first, but you get used to it. I also found that holding the curl in my hand for a few seconds after releasing it from the iron helped it set better. I burned my fingers a few times, but hey, beauty is pain, right? Just kidding, be careful, please.

Almost There

After curling each section, I just let them cool down. I didn’t touch them too much because I heard that messing with them while they’re hot can make them fall out faster. Once my whole head was curled, I gently ran my fingers through the curls to loosen them up a bit. It wasn’t perfect, and I might try using hot rollers one day, but it was pretty close to what I was going for!

Final Touches

I finished it off with a bit of hairspray to keep everything in place. I was actually pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not salon-perfect, but it’s a big improvement from my first few attempts. It took me an hour from start to finish, but hey, I was not in a rush.

So yeah, that’s my journey to figuring out how to curl my hair back. It took some practice, a few burnt fingers, and a lot of patience. But I think I’ve finally got it down. It’s all about that backward motion, folks! Don’t give up if you fail a few times. If you keep practicing, you’ll get there.
