So yesterday I was scrolling through my feed and saw all these fancy white glitter nails popping up. Thought hey, why not give it a shot myself? Dug out my nail stuff from the bottom drawer where it’s been collecting dust since Halloween last year. Found a half-dried white polish, some random glitter pots, and that cheap top coat I bought at the dollar store.

Getting My Nails Ready
First things first, I soaked my hands in warm water to soften up the cuticles. Used an old orange stick to push ’em back – kinda messy but did the job. Filed my nails into that trendy almond shape, except my pinky ended up looking like a shiv because I sneezed halfway through. Whatever, adds character right?
The Glitter Experiment Begins
Started with the basic full-glitter look:
- Slopped on two coats of that chunky white polish. Streaky as hell but whatever.
- Dumped silver glitter onto a paper plate while the polish was still wet. Dunked each finger in like I was dipping chicken tenders in batter.
- Wiped off the extra glitter globs with my thumb – bad move, ended up with disco thumb for half an hour.
Looked like my nails caught the glitter flu. Not terrible though.
Fancy French Tip Attempt
Then I tried that french tip version everyone’s doing:

- Painted just the tips with white polish using the brush edge
- Shook iridescent glitter into the cap and tapped it on with a makeup sponge
Huge mess. Glitter went everywhere like I’d just murdered a unicorn. My cat’s tail picked up more glitter than my nails. Third finger’s tip looked like a glitter booger. Still kept it though.
The Clear Base Hack
Final attempt: the lazy way.
- Slapped on clear base coat
- Sprinkled fine holographic powder while blowing away excess
- Sealed with top coat so thick it took three hours to dry
Easiest by far. Looked decent till I scratched my nose and got glitter up my nostrils. Worth it.
Ended up with three decent fingers and seven hot messes. Phone camera made ’em look expensive though. Posted the least-crooked one on my feed. Got five likes including my mom. Win.
