Okay, so you wanna hear about my purple designer handbag project? Buckle up, it’s a bit of a ride!

Top Purple Designer Handbags: Styles & Brands Youll Love

It all started with me seeing this gorgeous purple bag online, but the price tag? Ouch! So, I thought, “Why not try making one myself?” I mean, how hard could it be, right? Famous last words!

First things first: planning! I sketched out a design, roughly based on the one I saw. Then came the research. I spent hours online, watching videos on bag making, learning about different types of leather (ended up going for a faux leather – gotta be ethical!), and figuring out what tools I’d need.

Next up: materials. Finding the right shade of purple was a mission. I went to like, four different fabric stores before I found one I loved. Got the lining fabric, zippers, buckles, the whole shebang. I even splurged on some fancy thread!

The cutting! Oh boy, the cutting. This was where things started to get real. I made a paper pattern based on my sketch, pinned it to the faux leather, and started cutting. Let’s just say my lines weren’t exactly perfect. There was definitely some creative improvisation involved.

Sewing time! I dragged out my old sewing machine (bless its heart) and got to work. This was the most challenging part, hands down. The faux leather was thick and slippery, and my sewing skills are… well, let’s just say they’re a work in progress. I had to unpick seams so many times I lost count. And there were definitely moments where I almost threw the whole thing out the window.

Adding the details. Once the main body of the bag was sewn together (sort of), I added the lining, the zipper, and the straps. These were tricky too! Getting the zipper in straight was a nightmare, and attaching the straps so they were even and sturdy took forever.

The finishing touches. I added some little metal feet to the bottom of the bag to protect the faux leather, and a cute little purple tassel. Then I spent what felt like an eternity trimming threads and smoothing out wrinkles.

The Result? Well, it’s not exactly perfect. It’s a little wonky in places, the stitching isn’t flawless, and there’s definitely some glue residue. But you know what? I MADE IT! It’s my very own purple designer-inspired handbag. And honestly, I’m pretty darn proud of it.

Lessons Learned?

  • Bag making is harder than it looks.
  • Patience is key (and I definitely need more of it).
  • Don’t be afraid to improvise.
  • And most importantly, even if it’s not perfect, it’s still something you created with your own two hands.

I can’t wait to try another project, but maybe something a little less… purple next time!
