Summer Straw Handbags: The Best Deals and How to Rock Them!

Okay, so, summer’s here, and you know what that means – time to break out the summer gear! I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect summer bag, and I finally decided to try making my own straw handbag. Let me tell you, it was a journey, but I think it turned out pretty great!

Summer Straw Handbags: The Best Deals and How to Rock Them!

Getting Started

First things first, I needed to gather my supplies. I hit up a few local craft stores and found some great stuff. Here’s what I picked up:

  • Straw material: I found some raffia that I liked.
  • A sturdy base: I actually used a round placemat for this.
  • Lining fabric: Got a cute floral print because, why not?
  • Handles: I chose some simple wooden handles.
  • Needle and thread: Basic sewing kit.
  • Hot glue gun: I used this for some of the decorations.

The Process

Once I had everything, I started working. I laid out the placemat and started weaving the raffia around it. This took some time, let me tell you. My fingers were definitely feeling it after a while! But I kept at it, slowly but surely.

After I had the basic shape of the bag, I started working on the lining. I cut the fabric to size and sewed it together, leaving an opening to insert the straw body. Then, I carefully slipped the lining into the straw bag and hand-stitched it in place. This was a bit tricky, but I managed.

Next up, the handles. I used my hot glue gun to attach them to the bag. I made sure they were secure because I didn’t want them falling off! Then, for a bit of extra flair, I added some charms that I had bought for myself to the side.

The Final Result

And that’s it! My very own handmade straw handbag. It took me a few days, working on and off, but I’m really happy with how it turned out. It’s not perfect, but it’s mine, and I made it! It’s roomy enough for all my summer essentials, and it looks pretty cute if I do say so myself.

I’ve already taken it out a few times, and I’ve gotten a bunch of compliments on it. People can’t believe I made it myself! It’s definitely a conversation starter. So, if you’re looking for a fun summer project, I highly recommend giving this a try. It’s a great way to get creative and make something unique that you can actually use. Who knows, maybe you’ll even start a new trend!
