Alright, so the other day, I figured I’d head over to the Somerset Collection. Had a bit of time on my hands, and thought, why not check out Saks Fifth Avenue? It’s been a while, and sometimes you just get that itch to see what’s new, or at least, what they want you to think is new.
Stepping Into Saks
So, I parked, made my way through Somerset, which is a whole experience in itself, you know, with all the different stores and people. Finally got to Saks. Walking in, yeah, it’s definitely Saks. Everything’s all shiny, smells faintly of perfume, and it’s pretty quiet, which can be nice sometimes. Not too many folks milling about when I first got there, which I prefer. Let’s you actually look at stuff without feeling rushed or like you’re in someone’s way.
I didn’t really have anything specific I needed to buy. It was more of a wander-around kind of trip. Sometimes it’s good just to see what’s out there, even if you know most of it is way out of your everyday price range. First thing I usually do is just a slow walk around the main floor. You’ve got the makeup counters, the handbags, all that jazz. The people working there, some are busy with customers, others are just kind of standing by, looking professional.
Browsing Through the Sections
I decided to head upstairs. Took the escalator, which gives you a good view of things. Spent some time in the men’s section. Here’s a quick rundown of what I peeked at:
- The shoe area – always a bunch of fancy stuff there. Some of it looks like it’d fall apart if you actually wore it outside, but hey, fashion, right?
- Checked out some of the casual wear, jackets and shirts. Lots of designer names, of course.
- Walked through the more formal stuff, suits and all that. Not really my scene for a Tuesday afternoon, but good to see.
The staff I encountered were polite enough. One person asked if I needed help finding anything. I just said, “Nah, just looking around, thanks.” They nodded and let me be, which is good. I’m not a fan of being followed around a store. It makes me want to leave faster, you know?
The clothes are, well, expensive. No shocker there. Some of the price tags, you just gotta laugh a little. But it’s interesting to see the materials and the designs up close. Sometimes you get ideas, or you see a style you might find a more down-to-earth version of somewhere else.
The General Vibe and Heading Out
The store itself was clean, well-lit, all that. It’s definitely got that luxury department store atmosphere down pat. You see a mix of people – some look like they shop there all the time, others, like me, are probably just having a look-see. It wasn’t too busy, which, as I said, I appreciate. Made for a pretty relaxed browse.
After about an hour or so, I felt like I’d seen enough. Didn’t end up buying anything this trip. Sometimes that’s just how it goes. It’s more about the experience of looking, I guess. Headed back down the escalator, through the ground floor again, and out into the main mall area of Somerset.
So, that was my little excursion to Saks at Somerset. It is what it is – a high-end store. Good for a browse if you’re in the mood and in the area. Don’t think I’ll be rushing back tomorrow to buy out the place, but it was an alright way to spend a bit of time. Every now and then, it’s interesting to see how the other half, or maybe the other tenth, shops, or at least where they could shop if they wanted to.
