Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to switch up my hair for a while now. I was getting bored with my usual look and saw this trend of light hair with dark roots popping up everywhere. It looked so cool and edgy, I just had to try it!

First, I gathered all my supplies. I’m no professional, so I just went with a box dye kit from the drugstore. I picked a light blonde shade for the lengths of my hair and a darker shade that matched my natural root color.
- Light blonde hair dye
- Darker shade hair dye
- Gloves (super important!)
- An old t-shirt I didn’t mind ruining
- Hair clips to section my hair
- A couple of bowls and brushes for mixing and applying the dye
I started by sectioning my hair. I clipped up the top layers, leaving out the bottom section that I wanted to dye first. Then, I mixed the light blonde dye according to the instructions on the box. I carefully applied it to the lengths of my hair, making sure not to get too close to my roots. This part was a little tricky, but I just took my time and made sure everything was evenly coated. Also, you need to leave some space between the root part.
Once the light dye was on, I waited for the recommended time, usually around 30 minutes. While I was waiting, I mixed the darker dye. After rinsing out the light dye and drying that section, I applied the darker color to my roots and blend them down. You need to make sure that the two colors are mixing to some degree.
I repeated this process for each section of my hair, working my way up until my whole head was done. It took a while, to be honest, but it was so worth it!
The Final Look
After rinsing and drying my hair, I was so stoked with the results! My hair was this awesome mix of light blonde with these dark, natural-looking roots. It looked just like the pictures I had seen. It’s a little messy and not perfect, but I think that adds to the charm. I love how it turned out, and it’s such a fun change from my old look. Now I feel so much more stylish and confident. It’s amazing what a little hair dye can do!
