Alright, let’s talk about this fella, Rick Owens. Folks keep askin’ about how old he is, like it’s the most important thing. Well, I reckon it ain’t, but I’ll tell ya what I know.

See, this Rick Owens fella, he’s a clothes maker. A big one, they say. Born way back in 1961, on November 18th, if you can believe it. That makes him… well, do the math yourself, I ain’t got all day. He’s from some place called Porterville, California. Never been there myself, but I hear it’s out west.
Now, Rick, he didn’t just start makin’ fancy clothes overnight. He went to some school, Otis College of Art and Design they called it, for a bit. Then, he hopped over to another one, Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, to learn how to cut and sew fabric, you know, makin’ them patterns and such. He didn’t finish that first school though, quit after two years, guess he had enough of that.
He got his start way back in 1994, sellin’ his stuff out of a little shop in Hollywood. Hollywood Boulevard, no less! Imagine that. Started from the bottom, I guess, just like the rest of us, in a way. He makes all sorts of things, not just clothes. Furniture too! Has a bunch of different lines, they say.
- Started in 1994
- From Porterville, California
- Went to art school, then learned to sew
- Sells clothes and furniture
They call him the “Dark Lord of Fashion”, which sounds mighty spooky if you ask me. But I guess his clothes are kinda dark and different. Not my cup of tea, mind you, I like a good sturdy cotton dress, but folks seem to like his stuff. He’s real famous, goes to Paris for them fancy fashion shows and all.
He’s been at it for a long time now, and he’s still goin’ strong. Some folks say he’s an icon, which I guess means he’s real good at what he does. They even wrote about him being in some fancy mansion in Paris, an old one from the 1700s. Can you imagine? A fella from Porterville livin’ in a place like that. He’s been in Paris a good long while now, ever since he left California.

And then there’s this woman, Michèle Lamy. She’s been with Rick for a long time, and she’s a character herself. Born in 1944, so she’s a bit older than him. She’s French, and she does all sorts of things – designin’ clothes, performin’, makin’ movies. A real go-getter, that one.
Now, some folks are all about age, like it matters so much. But I say, it’s what you do with your time that counts. Rick Owens, he’s been makin’ clothes for a long time, and he’s still at it. That’s somethin’ to be proud of, no matter how old you are. He’s been doin’ his thing, even when all them big companies are takin’ over the fashion world. He’s an independent fella, stands out from the crowd, they say.
So there you have it. Rick Owens, born in ’61, makin’ clothes since ’94, and still goin’ strong. He’s been called a lot of things – the “Dark Lord of Fashion,” an icon, and whatever else. But to me, he’s just a fella who found somethin’ he’s good at and stuck with it. And that’s more than a lot of folks can say.
They said he was about 55 in some article, and that was a while back. So, he’s gettin’ up there, but he ain’t showin’ no signs of stoppin’. Good for him, I say. Keep on keepin’ on, Rick.
Age ain’t nothin’ but a number, as they say. And Rick Owens, he’s a livin’ example of that. So next time someone asks you how old he is, tell ’em he’s old enough to know what he’s doin’, and young enough to keep on doin’ it.
