Odysseus Chronograph vs. Competitors: Which One Is Best for You

So, I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and I finally got my hands on this A. Lange & Söhne Odysseus Chronograph. Man, what a ride it’s been! Let me tell you all about it.

Odysseus Chronograph vs. Competitors: Which One Is Best for You

First off, I started doing some digging on this thing. Turns out, it’s not exactly cheap. I saw some numbers saying it’s around $39,100 retail, and even more on the used market. Like, over $50,000! That’s a lot of dough! But I was curious, so I kept going.

Then I started checking out the watch itself. It’s a decent size, about 40.5 mm across and 11.1 mm thick. Not too bulky, not too small. And it’s supposed to be water-resistant up to 120 meters, which is cool, I guess. Has a screw-down crown, whatever that means. They call it “sporty,” and yeah, I can see that.

I started comparing it to other watches. I found this other one from them, the Saxonia, that has a different… I don’t even know what it is, a balance wheel thingy? It looked different. Seemed like they didn’t just slap this Odysseus thing together from old parts. They actually put some thought into it. I think they call the movement in the Odysseus is different from their L951.5 movement. Maybe they call it L155.1 Datomatic. That’s pretty neat, I gotta admit.

Then I got to reading about what it actually does. It’s got a stopwatch, they call it a chronograph. But it’s not like those other chronographs with all those little dials. This one just has two hands. It’s kinda different, and I wasn’t sure about it at first. Seems like other brands give you both options, the little dials and the two hands. I don’t know, it’s something I’m still thinking about.

I was ready to pull the trigger, I wanted to add it to my collection. There was one article I ran into, It listed about 50 different chronograph watches. After reading a bunch of stuff and watching some videos, I decided to go for it. I had enough in the bank, and I figured, why not? It’s not like I’m gonna buy another one of these anytime soon!

So, I finally got it. And you know what? It’s pretty cool. It’s different. It’s definitely a conversation starter. I’ve been wearing it around, and people notice it. It’s not every day you see a watch like this.

I’m still figuring it all out, to be honest. But so far, so good. It’s been an adventure, that’s for sure. I’ll keep you guys posted on how it goes. Maybe I’ll do another write-up after I’ve had it for a while. We’ll see!
