Okay, so I’ve been wanting to customize my sneakers for a while, and I finally decided to go for it. I had this pair of plain white New Balance shoes, and I was like, “Let’s do something crazy!” I’m a big fan of vibrant colors, so I thought, “Why not purple and orange?” It’s a bold combo, I know, but I was feeling adventurous.

Gathering My Supplies
First things first, I needed to get my supplies together. I went to the local craft store and picked up some:
- Angelus leather paint in purple and orange (I heard this brand was the best for shoes)
- Paintbrushes – a few different sizes for details and larger areas
- Masking tape – gotta keep those lines clean!
- A sealant to protect the paint job (didn’t want all my hard work to scuff off)
- Some old newspapers, I made my working area.
Prepping the Shoes
Before I could start painting, I had to prep the shoes. Cleaned them with some soapy water, then remove the shoelaces. Next, I used the masking tape to cover the areas I didn’t want to paint – mainly the soles and the New Balance logo. This part took some patience, making sure the tape was really stuck down to prevent any paint bleeding.
Painting Time!
Now for the fun part! I started with the purple, carefully painting the areas I had mapped out in my head. I did a couple of thin coats, letting each one dry before adding the next. It’s better to do multiple thin coats than one thick one – prevents cracking and looks way smoother.
Then i do the same step on orange part.

Finishing Touches
Once everything was dry, I peeled off the masking tape – that’s when i feel so good! Finally, I applied a thin layer of sealant to protect my masterpiece. I let that dry overnight, just to be safe.
The Result
And there you have it! My custom purple and orange New Balance sneakers. I’m pretty stoked with how they turned out. They’re definitely unique, and I love that I made them myself. It was a fun little project, and I’m already thinking about what colors I’ll try next!
