Need to Be Washing Hair After Exercise? (Find Out Whats Best for Your Hair Type)

Okay, so I hit the gym today, as I usually do. I got a good workout, and as always, I was dripping sweat afterward. It’s a great feeling, but my hair? Not so much. It’s all greasy and gross, and nobody wants that. So, I decided it was time to tackle the post-workout hair situation. Let me walk you through what I did, step-by-step.

Headed to the Showers

First things first, I grabbed my towel and toiletries, then made my way to the locker room showers. It’s not exactly a spa, but it gets the job done. Once I got there, I found an empty stall and hopped in. Time to get this mop cleaned up!

Water Temperature

Now, the water. I turned the knob and waited for the water to warm up. I like it a bit hot, but not scalding, you know? It’s more relaxing that way, and I think it helps to loosen up all the sweat and grime. Once it reached the right temperature, I stepped under the stream.

Shampoo Time

With my hair thoroughly wet, I reached for my shampoo. I used a good amount, maybe a little more than usual, because I knew there was a lot of sweat to deal with. I started at the roots, working the shampoo into a nice lather. I massaged my scalp for a good minute or so, really making sure I got every inch. I always feel like this is the most important part. Gotta get rid of all that buildup, right?

Rinse, Rinse, Rinse

After scrubbing, it was time to rinse. I leaned back and let the water run through my hair. I made sure to rinse until all the suds were gone and the water ran clear. I ran my fingers through my hair a few times to make sure I didn’t miss any spots. No one likes that leftover shampoo feeling.

Conditioner (Optional but Recommended)

I decided to condition my hair today. I sometimes skip it if I am in a rush, but when I have time I do it. So, I squeezed out some conditioner and applied it mainly to the ends of my hair, avoiding the roots. I left it in for a few minutes while I washed the rest of my body. This gives it time to work its magic and make my hair all soft and smooth.

Final Rinse and Done

Finally, I rinsed out the conditioner. Again, I made sure to rinse thoroughly. I like to end with a quick blast of cold water. It’s a bit shocking at first, but it feels refreshing and supposedly closes the hair cuticles. I’m not sure if that’s true, but I do it anyway. I turned off the water and stepped out of the shower.

Drying Off

I grabbed my towel and patted my hair dry. I never rub it vigorously because that can cause breakage. I just squeeze out the excess water gently. After that, I usually just let it air dry, but sometimes I’ll use a hairdryer on a low setting if I’m in a hurry.

And that’s it! My post-workout hair washing routine. It’s pretty simple, but it works for me. My hair feels clean and fresh, and I’m ready to go about my day. Now, I can enjoy the rest of my day without feeling like a sweaty mess.
