Alright, guys, so the other day I was brainstorming with a friend who’s starting her own cosmetics line. She was totally stuck on names, so, being the helpful friend I am, I dove in to help her out. We started with a simple question,”what vibes you want to show?”
I began by just throwing out words. You know, anything that came to mind related to beauty, makeup, skincare…the works. Think like “glow,” “blossom,” “radiant,” “lush” – that sort of thing. We just built a huge list, no judgments, just a total word dump.
Here are some words which I wrote at that time:
- Shine
- Luster
- Cover
- Brush
- Art
Then, I started playing around with combining words. Like, taking a word like “rose” and pairing it with something unexpected, maybe “Rose & Rebel” or “Rose Alchemy.” The idea was to create something unique and memorable, something that would stick in people’s heads.
Think About the Target Audience
Next, I started thinking about her target audience. Who is she trying to reach? Is it young, edgy girls? Sophisticated, professional women? Once we had a better idea of the customer, the names started to flow more naturally.
Check for Availability
Finally, and this is super important, I had to make sure the names weren’t already taken. Like, is the domain name available? Are there any trademarks already registered? This part is a bit of a pain, but it’s crucial to avoid legal headaches down the road. After a good few hours, some coffee, and a lot of laughs, we had a shortlist of names that my friend really loved. It was a fun process, and it felt great to help her out!
From my perspective, a good brand name can plant an impression. It can help your business get a leg up on the competition!
