Alright, so I saw this thing about Natasha Lyonne’s hair color and it got me thinking. You know, she’s got that wild, curly hair, and the color is just… something else. I wanted to try something similar, but, like, toned down a bit. Not exactly the same, just inspired by it.
First, I spent some time looking at pictures of her online. Just to get a good feel for the color, you know? It’s not just red, it’s got these, like, coppery and blonde tones in it too. Kinda complex, actually. I just want to find the color as I want.
Then, I went to the beauty supply store. So many choices! I grabbed a few different red dyes, some with more orange, some with more brown. I also picked up a color-depositing conditioner, ’cause I figured that might be a good way to maintain the color without doing a full dye job every few weeks.
Next up was actually doing it. I started by doing a strand test, you know, just to make sure I wouldn’t end up with something crazy. I mixed a little bit of each dye together, trying to get close to that Natasha Lyonne vibe. I left it on for the recommended time, rinsed it out, and… not bad! It was a little too bright, though.
So, I added a bit more of the brown dye to the mix, did another strand test, and that was it! It was this nice, warm, reddish-brown color. I will try to find a better color next time, maybe it will be much closer to Natasha’s hair.
The Real Deal
I put some of my hair up with a clip and only dye my bottom hair, so I can easily hide the color if I don’t want to show it. Then I applied the dye, I used gloves, obviously, and made sure to really work it into my hair. I left it on for about 30 minutes, then rinsed it out with cool water.
I was pretty happy with how it turned out! It wasn’t exactly like Natasha’s, but it had that same kind of warm, vibrant feel. And, it looked pretty good with my skin tone, which was a relief. It is a long journey for me to get my hair color and my hairstyle close to Natasha’s hair, but I will keep trying.
Aftercare
- I’ve been using that color-depositing conditioner every few washes, and it seems to be helping to keep the color from fading too quickly.
- I’ve also been trying to wash my hair less often, ’cause that can strip the color out.
- Dry shampoo is my friend, lol.
Overall, I’m pretty stoked with how this turned out. It was a fun little experiment, and I learned a lot about hair dye in the process. I’m not sure if I’ll keep this color forever, but it’s definitely a fun change for now. Also, if I want to make the color look lighter, I think I can use Change Color Tint. That sounds great to me. I saw someone online talking about a tool called LunaPic, maybe I should give that a try.
I have also learned that Nicole Nichols is a fictional character played by Natasha Lyonne on the series Orange Is the New Black, so next time I will use Nicole Nichols as my target.
Who knows, maybe next time I’ll go even bolder with the color! Or maybe I’ll try a completely different look. That’s the fun of hair, right? You can always change it up!
