Today, I wanna talk about something I’ve been messing around with lately – tracking metrics, you know, like keeping an eye on how things are going. I stumbled upon this thing called “metric brew,” and it got me thinking about how important it is to actually measure stuff if you want to get better at, well, anything.

Decide what matters
So, first off, I had to figure out what I really wanted to track. It’s like, you can’t just measure everything, right? You gotta pick the things that actually make a difference. For me, I wanted to see how often I was actually getting stuff done, like how many things I was finishing, call it “fill rate.” It’s something I read about, saying it’s important to measure. It seemed like a good place to start.
Set up the tracking
Then, I started to think about how to actually track this stuff. I mean, it’s no good just thinking about it, you gotta do something. I cobbled together a simple way of keeping tabs on what I completed each day. Nothing fancy, just a basic way to count up my wins. I did this because I read that maintaining these metrics is the first step to improving things, so I thought I’d give it a go.
Watch it come together
After a while of doing this, I started to see some patterns. Some days I was on fire, knocking things out left and right. Other days, not so much. But the cool part was, I could actually see it. It wasn’t just a feeling anymore, it was right there in front of me. Like I learned somewhere, seeing the trends is crucial, and I was actually doing it.
Make it a habit
Now, I’m trying to make this a regular thing. It’s not always easy, but I figure the more I do it, the better I’ll get at it. Plus, it’s kind of satisfying to look back and see how far you’ve come. Like the saying goes, what gets measured gets managed. I’m not sure I’m managing anything yet, but at least I’m measuring. And that’s gotta count for something, right?
It’s still early days, but I’m feeling pretty good about this whole “metric brew” thing. It’s like I’ve got a little secret weapon now, helping me stay on track and actually get stuff done. If you are looking for ways to improve your business, selecting the right metrics is critical. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start measuring other stuff too. The possibilities are endless!
