So, a while back, I decided to head out to this place called the Lazy Bear Lodge in Linville, North Carolina. It’s up in the Blue Ridge Mountains, and man, the pictures online looked amazing. I was itching for a getaway, and this seemed like the perfect spot.

First off, getting there was a bit of an adventure. It’s tucked away on this mountain, about a mile and a half from some historic general store. I drove up this winding paved road, surrounded by trees, and finally found the place. It’s this big log cabin, two stories, and it just looked so cozy and inviting.

Settling In

  • Checked in, and the folks running it were super friendly.
  • Got my room key, which was actually a real key, not one of those plastic cards, which I thought was a nice touch.
  • My room was on the second floor, and it had this big wooden door. Felt like stepping back in time a bit.

Exploring the Lodge

The lodge itself was pretty cool. They had these huge porches all around, with rocking chairs and stuff. I spent a good amount of time just sitting there, looking out at the mountains. The view of Grandfather Mountain from here was freaking awesome, no joke, you can see those rocky parts from way far. They said it is like 5.86 acres big. You could see the valley below, too. Inside, there were lots of comfy sofas and a big fireplace. I could totally see myself curling up there with a book on a cold day.

Room Comforts

  • My room had a king-size bed, which was super comfy.
  • There was a little balcony overlooking the woods.
  • The bathroom had one of those old-fashioned claw-foot tubs. Took a long soak in that one evening, it was so relaxing.

Food and Such

They served breakfast every morning, and it was pretty good. Lots of homemade stuff, like muffins and jams. I’m not a huge breakfast person, but I definitely enjoyed it. They also had coffee and tea available all day, which was a nice perk.

Overall Vibe

It was incredibly peaceful.

The whole place had this relaxed, laid-back vibe. I spent most of my time just chilling, reading, and enjoying the scenery. It was exactly the kind of escape I was looking for. If you’re into nature and just want a quiet place to unwind, I’d definitely recommend checking out the Lazy Bear Lodge. It’s not fancy, but it’s got a certain charm that I really appreciated.
