Kilian Moonlight in Heaven Review: Is This Fragrance Worth It?

Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try out Kilian’s Moonlight in Heaven for a while now. I’ve heard so many good things, and the notes sounded right up my alley – mango, coconut, tonka bean… sounds like a tropical vacation in a bottle, right?

Kilian Moonlight in Heaven Review: Is This Fragrance Worth It?

First, I got my hands on a sample. I didn’t want to blind buy a full bottle, those things are pricey! I found a reputable online decant site, and ordered a small 2ml vial. It arrived pretty quickly, standard shipping, nothing fancy.

The First Spritz

Okay, so the moment of truth. I sprayed it on my wrist, and my immediate thought was… “hmm, interesting.” It wasn’t the instant love I was expecting. The opening was a lot more citrusy than I anticipated. I definitely got the grapefruit and lemon right away, with a bit of a peppery kick. It was bright, almost sharp.

The Dry Down – Where the Magic Happens

I waited. And waited some more. The initial sharpness started to fade after about 30 minutes. Then, the mango and coconut started to peek through. It became creamier, softer, and a little bit sweeter. This is where I started to understand the hype. It was still fresh, but with a lovely tropical sweetness that wasn’t overpowering.

The Verdict

I wore it for a full day, and I have to say, it grew on me. By the end of the day, I was really enjoying it. The longevity is pretty good – I could still smell it faintly on my skin after about 6-7 hours. The projection is moderate, it’s not a beast mode fragrance, which I appreciate. It’s more of a “close encounter” scent.

Would I buy a full bottle? Maybe. I’m still on the fence. I really enjoyed the dry down, but the opening was a bit too sharp for my taste. I’ll definitely finish my sample, and then I’ll decide. It’s a gorgeous scent, and it’s definitely worth trying if you’re into fresh, tropical fragrances with a touch of sweetness.
