So, I’ve been digging into this fragrance lately, Joy by Jean Patou, and let me tell you, it’s been quite a journey.

I started by just wanting to know what the hype was about. I mean, I kept hearing about this classic perfume, and I just had to get my hands on it.
First off, I did a bit of background reading. Turns out, Jean Patou himself passed away way back in 1936. But the brand’s been carried on by some big names like Marc Bohan, Karl Lagerfeld, and even Christian Lacroix. Sounds fancy, right?
Then, I tried to actually find a bottle. Easier said than done! It’s discontinued, so it’s not like I could just walk into any store and grab one. I hit up a bunch of online shops, even checked out some second-hand places. No luck at first.
Finding The One
I finally found someone who had it after searching for a long time. They said it’s pretty rare now, especially older bottles. This got me even more curious. Like, what’s so special about this perfume?
- Hunt for online retailers: I browsed through numerous online fragrance shops.
- Check second-hand markets: I explored options like online auctions and vintage stores.
- Read reviews and forums: I scoured fragrance forums and reviews to gauge the authenticity and condition of available bottles.
Trying It Out
When I finally got my hands on a bottle, I was so excited. I spritzed a bit on my wrist and took a whiff. Honestly, my first impression was mixed. It’s definitely a strong scent, very floral and kind of old-fashioned. Not really what I usually go for, but I get why people like it.

I wore it around for a few days, just to see how it felt. I noticed that it lasts a really long time, which is a plus. And people did compliment me on it, even though I wasn’t totally sold myself.
The Verdict
So, after all that, do I think Joy by Jean Patou is worth the hype? It’s tough to say. It’s definitely a unique fragrance with a lot of history. But it’s not something I’d wear every day. Maybe it’s just not my style. But if you’re into classic, strong perfumes, you might love it.
I also found out that LVMH bought the brand and changed the name to just “Patou.” Some people are not happy about that, saying it’s not the same anymore. I can’t really compare since I haven’t tried the newer versions, but it’s something to keep in mind if you’re looking for the original Joy.
Anyway, that’s my little adventure with Joy by Jean Patou. It was fun to explore and learn about this iconic fragrance, even if it didn’t totally win me over. Smell ya later!
