Alright, so check it out, today I’m gonna walk you through this little project I tackled: turning a regular ride into something resembling John Wick’s car, that Ford Mustang. Now, I ain’t saying I built a perfect replica, but I definitely got close enough to feel like Baba Yaga cruising down the street.
First things first, I grabbed a ’69 Mustang. Okay, okay, it wasn’t exactly a ’69, and it definitely wasn’t a Boss 429 like they say in the movie (those things are rare as hen’s teeth and cost a fortune!), but it was close enough for my budget. Think of it as a “tribute” car, yeah?
Stripped it down. Gutted the interior, took off the bumpers, the whole shebang. Needed a clean slate to work with. This part was messy, greasy, and took way longer than I thought it would. Found a bunch of rust I had to deal with too – classic.
Then, the fun part: the paint job. Went with a dark grey, almost black. The key was to get that menacing, understated look. Spent a whole weekend just prepping the surface, making sure it was smooth as glass. The actual painting? Hired a pro for that. Figured I’d screw it up royally if I tried it myself.
Sourced some new wheels. They weren’t the exact same style as in the movie, but they had that similar aggressive look. Blacked ’em out, of course. Tires? Low profile, wide as heck. Gotta have that stance, you know?
Next, the interior. This is where I tried to get a little fancy. Replaced the seats with some black leather buckets. Nothing too over-the-top, just clean and functional. Threw in a new steering wheel, something with a good grip. And of course, a killer sound system. Gotta have some tunes to listen to while I’m, uh, “driving.”
Rebuilt the engine. Well, mostly. Gave it a good tune-up, replaced some worn parts, and threw in a few performance upgrades. Nothing crazy, just wanted to make sure it ran smooth and had a little extra punch when I needed it.
Finally, the little details. Blacked out the trim, added some subtle badging, and generally cleaned everything up. Made sure all the lights worked, the brakes were solid, and everything was safe and legal. Don’t want to get pulled over by the cops looking like John Wick on a joyride.

And there you have it. It’s not a perfect replica, but it’s close enough. Took me a few months, a whole lot of sweat, and way more money than I initially planned, but it was totally worth it. Now I just need to work on my Keanu Reeves impression.
