Headed out early for the fabric hunt
Woke up craving some textile therapy, figured Joann’s new arrivals might hit the spot. Grabbed my reusable tote bag and gulped down coffee while checking traffic on my phone. Parked near that giant red sign feeling excited – new fabrics always give me creative jitters.

Navigating the rainbow madness
Pushed through those automatic doors straight into the seasonal aisle. Dodged pumpkin decorations and Halloween garlands – seriously, it’s August! Made a beeline for the “New Arrivals” banner at the back wall. Saw four other ladies speed-walking there too – guess we’re all fabric junkies.
Started scanning bolts like a hawk:
- First noticed these trippy geometric cottons screaming 70s vibes
- Got hypnotized by sequin fabrics shimmering under fluorescent lights
- Snort-laughed at bacon-print fleece (who actually buys this?)
- Almost tripped over a cart reaching for galaxy-print knits
The touchy-feely inspection phase
Unrolled like three yards of velvet just to pet it. The cranky-looking lady next to me kept sighing when I flipped through the stacks. Whatever Brenda, let people enjoy textures! Found this amazing linen-cotton blend but saw two holes near the selvage. Held it up to show the manager – she straight up snatched it away mumbling “damaged goods”.
Midday reality check hit hard:
- Realized half these “new” patterns look familiar from last season
- Panicked when my coffee buzz wore off and couldn’t decide
- Got distracted by buttons near checkout for 20 minutes
The walk of shame to checkout
Ended up with just two cuts instead of my usual haul. That cosmic blue jersey kept calling my name though. Lugged my tiny bag past ladies buying whole bolts thinking “next time”. Drove home brainstorming curtain designs with that fabric I didn’t buy. Classic Joann’s trip – always leave with more ideas than materials.
