My Run-in with the Ivory Dunks Craze
So, I kept seeing these things pop up everywhere online. You know the ones, the ivory dunks. Looked pretty clean, gotta admit. Reminded me a bit of the simple sneakers we used to chase back in the day, but way harder to get now, it seems.

Curiosity got the better of me, I guess. Thought I’d just casually check it out. Fired up the laptop one morning, typed them into the search bar. First thing I saw? Sold out. Everywhere. Official stores, gone in seconds apparently. Then I saw the resale sites. Wow. The prices people were asking… just crazy. Made me stop and think.
I went through the motions anyway, just to see:
- Checked a couple of the popular sneaker apps. Entered a raffle or two. Zero luck.
- Looked at some online stores during a supposed ‘restock’. Page crashed.
- Saw folks complaining about bots scooping everything up. Yeah, sounds about right.
It wasn’t even about desperately needing the shoes. It was the process. It felt… kind of silly. Spending all this time, stressing over apps, raffles, drop times. For a pair of shoes. Back then, you might camp out, sure, but it felt different. More straightforward, maybe?
Shifting Gears
Honestly, it just drained me. I remembered spending a whole Saturday trying to fix that leaky faucet in the kitchen sink. Drove me nuts for hours. Went to the hardware store maybe three times. Got soaked. But when I finally got it tightened up, no drips? Man, that felt good. Real. Something actually accomplished.
Compared to clicking refresh on a webpage for hours hoping to maybe win a chance to spend hundreds on sneakers? The faucet job felt like a better use of my Saturday, hands down. Even with the wet floor and the skinned knuckles.

So, I closed the browser tabs. Uninstalled one of the apps. Decided my old reliable boots were perfectly fine. Maybe I’m just getting old, I don’t know. Or maybe I just prefer fixing things I can actually touch. The whole ivory dunk thing? Yeah, think I’ll sit that one out. Got enough going on.
