Is eBay Watch Selling a Waste? (Selling Watches on eBay Not Worth It)

Okay, so I thought I’d try my hand at selling some of my old watches on eBay. I’ve got a few decent ones that I don’t wear anymore, figured I could make a little extra cash. Boy, was I wrong.

Is eBay Watch Selling a Waste? (Selling Watches on eBay Not Worth It)

Getting Started

First, I spent ages taking pictures. You know, trying to get the lighting just right, showing off all the angles, making sure there weren’t any blurry bits. Then I had to write up the descriptions. Trying to be all detailed and accurate, like “minor scratches on the clasp” and “keeps time perfectly.” That took way longer than I expected.

Listing and Waiting…

Next, I listed everything. I researched similar watches to try and figure out a fair price, but honestly, it felt like a total guessing game. I chose the auction format, thinking it might get more interest. Then, I just…waited.

The Fees…Oh, the Fees!

Finally, one of my watches sold! I was pretty stoked, until I saw the fees. eBay took a chunk, PayPal took a chunk, and suddenly my profit wasn’t looking so great. I even used my money to pay the shipping cost.

Packing and Shipping

Then came the packing.I was scared about my watches being damaged during shipping, so I put a lot of bubble wraps, tapes and * that, I went to post office, spent 1 hour to make sure my package qualified for the standard.

The Aftermath

After all that, I made a measly amount of money. Between the time I invested, the fees, and the general hassle, it just wasn’t worth it. I felt exhausted and disappointed. I could have made more money just working an extra shift at my regular job.

My old watches deserved more respect and the process was just too stressful and time-consuming.

So, yeah, selling watches on eBay? Not for me. I think I’ll just stick to giving them away to friends or something next time.
