Alright, let’s talk about my little adventure getting a YSL women’s coat. It wasn’t exactly an impulse buy, let me tell you.

Starting the Hunt
So, winter was coming up, and my old coat was looking pretty sad. I’d seen some really sharp coats online and in magazines, and those YSL ones just kept catching my eye. They looked so classic, you know? Like something you keep forever. I started doing a bit of digging online first, just to see the styles and, gulp, the prices. Yeah, they’re definitely an investment piece.
Seeing Them IRL
Looking online is one thing, but with something like a coat, especially at that price, I knew I needed to actually touch it and try it on. So, I planned a trip to a department store that carried the brand. Felt a bit fancy walking into that section, haha. The sales assistant was nice, not pushy at all, which I appreciated. They pulled out a few different styles for me.
- The feeling: The first thing I noticed was the weight and the feel of the fabric. Definitely felt like quality stuff, really smooth wool, nice lining.
- Trying them on: I tried a classic black wool coat, a belted trench style, and a shorter pea coat. The black one felt amazing, instantly chic. The trench was lovely too, but maybe a bit more formal than I needed day-to-day. The pea coat was cute but didn’t feel as versatile.
Making the Choice
I kept going back to that first classic black wool coat. It just fit perfectly off the rack, which almost never happens for me. It hit at just the right length, not too long, not too short. It felt heavy enough to be warm but didn’t feel bulky. It was simple, but the cut was just impeccable. You could tell it was well-made just by how it hung.
Decision time was tough. My brain was doing the whole “cost per wear” calculation. I figured, okay, this is a classic style, it’s black, it will go with everything, and it’s not going to go out of fashion next year. If I take care of it, it could last me a decade, maybe more. That kind of helped justify the price tag in my head.
Bringing It Home
So, I did it. Pulled the trigger. Handed over my card with slightly shaky hands. They wrapped it up beautifully in a garment bag. Carrying that bag out felt like a mix of excitement and “Oh my god, what did I just do?”.

Living With It
Honestly? No regrets. I’ve worn it loads already this season. It’s warm, it looks put-together even if I’m just wearing jeans and a sweater underneath. It just feels good to wear. It’s one of those things that makes you feel instantly more confident when you put it on. It was definitely a splurge, but seeing how much I wear it and how good it feels, I think it was worth it for me. It’s become a real staple in my wardrobe.
