Today I wanted to try something a little different with my look, so I decided to pair a grey dress with black tights. Honestly, I wasn’t sure how it would turn out, but I was curious to see if these two neutrals could work together. I’ve always been a fan of black tights – they’re such a staple in my wardrobe, you know? But I’ve never really experimented with grey dresses before.

I started by picking out a simple, charcoal grey dress from my closet. It’s a tiered mini dress, kind of casual but also nice enough for a night out. Then I grabbed a pair of opaque black tights. I figured they would provide a good contrast with the grey and also keep me warm since it’s still a bit chilly outside.
- Put on the grey dress first.
- Pulled on the black tights.
- Checked myself out in the mirror.
At first, I was a little unsure. The grey and black together seemed a bit…plain? But I remembered reading somewhere that grey is a neutral color, so it should go with pretty much anything, including black. So, I decided to add some accessories to liven things up a bit.
I added a black belt to cinch the dress at the waist, creating a more defined silhouette. This small addition made the outfit appear more tailored and less plain.
For shoes, I opted for black ankle boots. I thought they would complement the tights and add a bit of edge to the outfit. Plus, they’re super comfortable, which is always a bonus. After slipping on the boots, I added a statement necklace to draw attention upwards and add a focal point to the outfit.
Accessories
- Black belt
- Black ankle boots
- Statement necklace
Finally, I took one last look in the mirror. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised! The grey dress and black tights actually looked pretty chic together. The accessories definitely helped to elevate the look and make it more interesting. It is really amazing!

I wore this outfit out to dinner with friends, and I got a few compliments, which was nice. It’s always fun to try new things with fashion and see what works. I’ll definitely be experimenting more with grey and black in the future. Maybe next time I’ll try a lighter grey dress or some patterned tights. The possibilities are endless!
