French tip pink vs classic white tips which looks better on you

Okay so today I finally tried the whole French tip thing that’s everywhere on TikTok. Seriously, my feed is flooded with girls showing off these pink and white tips. Had to see what the fuss was about, right? Which one actually looks decent on my stubby fingers? Spoiler: it was kinda messy.

First Step: Gathering the Stuff

Grabbed my oldest, cheapest white polish from the back of the drawer – you know, that one that’s a bit goopy. Found this dusty baby pink I bought years ago thinking I’d be “feminine”. Snatched the sticky tape too, figured it would help me make those clean lines everyone brags about. My desk lamp became my “salon light”. Wasn’t exactly fancy.

White Tips Disaster Zone

Started with the classic white. Peeled off a tiny strip of tape, stuck it below where I thought the white part should start on my nail. Painted the white polish over the tip… or tried to. The brush was shedding bristles like crazy, and the polish globbed on thicker than I wanted. Yanked the tape off too soon – big mistake. Smudged it everywhere. The white looked super bright, almost harsh against my skin. Plus, within like, two minutes of trying to wave my hand dry? Smudged again. Ended up looking like I dipped my fingers in whiteout. Not chic. More… accident.

Pink Tip Hope (Then Crash)

Washed the white mess off. Took a deep breath. Time for the baby pink. Tried the tape trick again. Got the tape straighter this time. Painted the pink on. It felt… softer? Less like a neon sign. The color was kinda cute against my skin tone – warmer than the stark white. But again, the polish was uneven. Some tips looked thicker than others. One nail decided to rebel completely – the tape didn’t stick right, so the line bled underneath. Ended up with a little pink blob instead of a crisp tip. Frustrating! And honestly, it just looked like I painted the ends of my nails pink, not that fancy French vibe.

The Winner? Maybe Neither…

Honestly? Neither looked super amazing on me just doing it myself at home with my ancient polishes. The white felt too fake and jarring. The pink was nicer, softer, more “me” maybe… but still looked kinda amateur because my home skills sucked. Holding my hands up under the lamp? Felt like I could see every mistake. Maybe with better polish, steadier hands, and actual salon skills it’d work. But doing it solo? Eh. Maybe I’ll just get gel next time if I really want that look. Right now, my fingers look a bit chewed. Lesson learned: TikTok makes it look waaaay easier than it is. And my pink polish is definitely going back in the dusty drawer.
