My First Real Look
So I’d heard about Anna Sui fragrances, mostly because the bottles look kinda wild, right? Like something out of a fairy tale or whatever. Never actually got around to smelling them properly, just saw them sitting there on shelves looking pretty.

Anyway, I was out shopping a while back, not really looking for perfume, just browsing. Ended up near the fragrance counter in a department store. My eyes landed on the Anna Sui section again. Those bottles – the butterflies, the unicorns, some look almost gothic. They just stand out. This time, I figured, okay, let’s actually see what these smell like.
I wasn’t on a mission or anything. Just genuinely curious. Picked up a tester strip. A salesperson drifted over, you know how they do. Asked if I was looking for something specific. I just said I was curious about the Anna Sui line, wanted to finally try them.
Trying a Few Out
She guided me towards a couple of the well-known ones. I made sure to actually spray them and give them a proper sniff this time. Here’s what I remember trying:
- Fantasia: Yeah, the gold unicorn one. Gave it a spray. Whoa, okay. Very sweet. Like, candy sweet mixed with fruit. It smelled really young to me. Not bad, just not something I’d wear. Felt a bit too… much?
- Secret Wish: This had the little fairy sitting on top. This one was definitely lighter. More floral, kind of airy. It was nicer than Fantasia for me, less like getting hit with a bag of sugar. Still felt youngish, but it was pleasant. Like a light spring scent.
- Some other floral one: Honestly, I forgot the name. The bottle was purple I think, maybe La Vie de Bohème? It was different. Still had some sweetness but there was something else underneath, maybe a bit woody? It was more my speed than the first two, but still didn’t quite grab me.
I tried another one or two, but they started to smell similar after a point. The overall theme seemed to be very sweet, floral, and fruity. Definitely gives off a youthful, whimsical vibe. You can tell the bottle design is a huge part of the appeal, maybe even the main part for some folks. They really are works of art in a way.
Final Thoughts
So, after all that sniffing, did I walk away with an Anna Sui bottle? Nope. Just not really my kind of scent profile. I tend to go for things a bit less sweet, maybe more green or spicy or even just a clean musk. Nothing wrong with the Anna Sui stuff, it’s just clearly aimed at a different taste.

Still, I’m glad I finally took the time to actually try them. It satisfied my curiosity. Now when I see those fancy bottles, I know what’s inside. It was kind of a fun little experiment, just exploring something I’d only ever looked at before. Didn’t find a new signature scent, but hey, experience gained, right? Confirmed they are mostly about that fantasy aesthetic matched with very sweet, playful smells. The bottles remain cool though, gotta give them that.
