Emily in Paris Shorts Inspiration (Dress Like Emily with These Fashionable Tips)

Okay, so, I’ve been totally obsessed with “Emily in Paris” lately, mostly for the fashion, you know? I mean, who isn’t, right? After watching, I got super inspired and decided to recreate some of Emily’s iconic looks but with a little twist – making them work for someone short like me, because let’s be real, not all of us are built like Lily Collins.

So I started this little project. First, I spent hours, literally hours, binge-watching the show again, pausing at every outfit that caught my eye. I made a bunch of notes, like, “Okay, this is a cute skirt, but how would I make it work on a 5’2″ frame?” I even sketched some ideas, which was kind of fun, even though I’m no fashion designer.

Next, it was time to hit the stores. I didn’t want to just copy the outfits exactly – where’s the fun in that? Plus, some of those designer pieces are way out of my budget. So, I went to a bunch of different shops around the city, from those fancy boutiques to some cool thrift stores. The mission was to find pieces that gave off the same vibe as Emily’s outfits but were more affordable and fit a petite body type better. I even contacted some PR, to see whether they can offer some clothing.

  • The Shopping Spree:
    • Boutiques: I found some amazing pieces in local boutiques that had that Parisian chic feel. I was particularly looking for bold colors and patterns, just like Emily.
    • Thrift Stores: This was a bit of a treasure hunt, but I managed to find some vintage gems that added a unique touch to the outfits.
    • Online: I also did some online shopping to find specific items I couldn’t get in stores.

After getting all the pieces, the real fun began – styling! I tried on so many combinations, mixing and matching different items. Some outfits were a hit right away, others needed a bit more work. I realized that the key was to play with proportions. Like, if I wore a voluminous skirt, I’d pair it with a more fitted top to balance it out. And high-waisted everything became my best friend!

I also paid a lot of attention to accessories. Emily’s outfits are always so well-accessorized, and I found that the right hat, scarf, or bag could totally elevate a look. Shoes were important too – I opted for heels or boots with a bit of a platform to give me some extra height and make the outfits look more proportionate.

Then it was time for a little photoshoot, haha. I set up a makeshift studio in my living room and took tons of pictures of each outfit. I wanted to document the whole process and also see how the looks translated on camera. I’m really satisfied with the results.

The Results

Honestly, the whole process was so much fun and I learned a lot about styling for my body type. It was really cool to see how I could take inspiration from the show and make it my own. I ended up with a bunch of new outfits that I love and feel super confident in. Plus, it was a great excuse to rewatch the show!

So yeah, that’s my little “Emily in Paris” fashion adventure. It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. I might do it again for the next season, who knows?
