Alright, so, I’ve always been into fashion, right? Like, always. And Vogue? That’s the dream. So, I started thinking, “How can I actually make this happen?” I mean, it’s Vogue! It’s not like applying to be a cashier at the grocery store.

First, I did some digging. I gotta know what I’m up against. Turns out, getting into Vogue is tough, like, really tough. They want people who know their stuff, who’ve been around the block, you know? Not just some newbie who likes pretty clothes. They’re looking for people with experience in fashion and media. I read up on how Vogue started, way back in 1892 as this high-society magazine. It’s wild to see how much it’s changed.

So, I figured I needed to get some experience. I started by volunteering at local fashion shows, helping designers, doing whatever I could. It wasn’t glamorous, let me tell you. Lots of running around, fetching coffee, and steaming clothes. But, I was learning. I was seeing how things work behind the scenes.

  • Then, I started taking some extra courses. It was suggested that BA and MA degrees were useful, so I did mine in English Literature, it was said to be helpful.
  • I did some internships, anywhere that would take me. I even did some freelance writing for small fashion blogs, just to get my name out there.
  • I put together a portfolio of all my work, every little thing. It wasn’t much at first, but it was something. Every article I wrote, every photo I took, every project I worked on, went in there.

Meanwhile, I was networking like crazy. I went to every fashion event I could find, I talked to people, I made connections. It’s all about who you know, right? I even reached out to some people who work at Vogue on social media. Most of them didn’t respond, but hey, it was worth a shot.

Finally, after what felt like forever, I saw a job posting for an assistant position at Vogue. I applied immediately, of course. I polished up my resume, wrote a killer cover letter, and sent in my portfolio. Then, I waited. And waited. And waited.

Then one day, I got an email. They wanted to interview me! I was so nervous, I could barely sleep the night before. The interview was intense. They asked me all sorts of questions about fashion, about my experience, about why I wanted to work at Vogue. I answered as best as I could, trying to show them how passionate I was, how much I had learned.

My Dream Came True

A few days later, I got another email. I got the job! I couldn’t believe it. All that hard work, all those long hours, it all paid off. I was going to work at Vogue! It wasn’t a high-level position or anything, but it was a start. And I was determined to work my way up, to learn everything I could, to make a name for myself in the fashion world. And, well, here I am, living the dream.
