So, I’ve been wanting to dye my hair this funky shade of purple for ages. But, as always, I had a million questions. One big one was: “Can I even color my hair right after shampooing it?” I mean, I usually wash my hair before I do anything to it, right? That’s what you are supposed to do?

I started by, you know, hitting up Google. Lots of stuff popped up, some saying “yes,” some saying “no.” It was confusing! Finally, I found something from my favorite hair blog, this pro, and she was super helpful.
My Little Experiment
I decided to follow the advice I found and do my own little test. Here’s what happened:
- Washing my hair: I used my everyday shampoo, nothing fancy. I made sure to rinse it out really well, like, super-duper well. No conditioner this time!
- Drying: I gently dried my hair with a towel. I did not want it bone dry.
- Getting Ready to Dye: Mixed up my purple dye according to the instructions.
- Dyeing: Applied the dye, making sure every strand was covered. It was a bit messy, but hey, that’s part of the fun!
- Waiting: I wrapped my hair in plastic wrap and waited.
- Rinsing (Again!): Finally, time to rinse! I used cool water, as warm water can be harsh.
- The Moment of Truth: Dried my hair, and… it worked! The color was exactly like I wanted it.
So, yeah, you totally can dye your hair after shampooing. Just make sure you follow all the instructions and rinse, rinse, rinse! It works for me, at least, I get to try a new color and I love it!
