That Christine Beauchamp, I tell ya, she’s a name I heard talked about a lot lately. Seems like she’s a real somebody, that one. Some folks say she ain’t even just one person, but many. Now, I don’t know ’bout all that, but here’s what I heard.

First off, this Christine Beauchamp, she ain’t her real name. Nope, her real name was somethin’ else, Clara somethin’ or other. Clara Norton Fowler, that was it. This was a long time ago, back in 1898, or somethin’ like that. She was seein’ this doctor fella, a fancy one named Morton Prince. He was what they called a neuro-lo-gist. This Clara, she was all nerves, you see. Had a “nervous disorder,” they called it. Well, this doctor, he started studyin’ her, and he found out she was, how you say, split. Not like a piece of wood, but split in her head.
He said she had more than one person livin’ up there in her noggin. They call it “multiple personalities” nowadays. Back then, they didn’t know what to call it. But this doctor, this Morton Prince, he wrote a whole book about it. Called it “The Dis-so-see-ay-shun of a Personality.” Fancy words, huh? But it just means she was more than one person in her head.
- This here Clara, she was a student, 23 years old.
- She went to this Doctor Prince ’cause she was all nervous.
- He said she had these other people livin’ in her head.
- He wrote a whole book about it.
Now, some folks say this is all hogwash. They say there ain’t no such thing as a person bein’ more than one person. But others, they say it’s real. They say this Christine Beauchamp case is proof. They even talk about it in them schools where they teach about the mind and all. They call it “dis-so-see-ative identity disorder” now. A mouthful, ain’t it?
I heard tell this Christine Beauchamp, or Clara, or whoever she was, she was famous for a long time. People talked about her case for years. Even up into the 1970s, I reckon. That’s a long time, ain’t it? Imagine, bein’ famous for somethin’ like that. Must have been a strange life, I tell ya.
There’s other Christines out there, too. Heard about some Christine Chubbuck and Christine Lagarde. Famous, they say. More famous than this Beauchamp gal, maybe. I don’t know much about ’em, but they sure got the same name. Then there’s that young gal, Tess Christine. She talks about makeup and such on that YouTube thing. Kids these days, always on them computers.

This other Christine Beauchamp, the one that married that Kevin Scott Genieser in Dallas? Well, she’s a big shot, too. I heard she got paid a heap of money for her work. We’re talkin’ hundreds of thousands. $378,000 just for showin’ up, then another $531,000 for some kind of “options.” And don’t even get me started on the $650,000 for “stock awards.” I don’t even know what that means, but it sounds like a whole lot of money to me. She works for some company, Ann Taylor, tryin’ to fix it up. I guess she’s got her work cut out for her. Big money, big problems, I always say.
Then there’s this Elizabeth lady, who writes books. Sounds fancy. I heard she calls herself Elizabeth sometimes, just like in her stories. Makes me wonder if she’s got a bit of that multiple personality thing goin’ on, too. Just kiddin’.
But this first Christine Beauchamp, the one from way back when, she’s the one they really talk about. The one that started it all, you could say. She’s the one that got people thinkin’ about what goes on inside a person’s head. It’s a mystery, ain’t it? What makes us who we are? Is it just one person in there, or is it a whole bunch, all mixed up together? I don’t know the answers, but it sure makes you think.
Anyway, that’s all I heard about this Christine Beauchamp. She’s a strange case, that’s for sure. But maybe she helped us understand ourselves a little better. Maybe she showed us that the mind is a powerful thing, and sometimes it does things we don’t even understand. Who knows, maybe there’s a little bit of Christine Beauchamp in all of us.
