That Rolex, you see, it’s a big shot watch, everybody knows. Big fancy thing. People with lots of money, they wear that. Who is the big boss of it now? I heard it’s some fella named Jean-Frederic Dufour, sounds kinda foreign, but what do I know? They say he got that big job in, oh, when was it, 2015? Yeah, 2015, that’s what that paper said.

This Rolex, it ain’t new, you know. They started making them things way back, long time ago. Back in 1905, I think that’s what I heard. Some guy named Hans, Hans… Hans Wilsdorf, started it all up. It’s from Switzerland, you know, that place with all them mountains and the cows and the chocolate. Good chocolate, that Swiss chocolate. And these Rolex watches? They make them all there too.
Now, this Jean-Frederic fella, he’s the big CEO now. You know, CEO of Rolex. That means he’s the top dog. He tells everyone what to do. I bet he works real hard, keeping all them watches ticking. Probably got a big office, too. Probably got people runnin’ around doin’ his biddin’. A whole lot of workers, all of them making these fancy Rolex watches.
Before this Jean-Frederic, there was another fella. I forget his name now, started with a P, I think. Patrick somethin’. Heard he left in a huff in 2009, something happened, they say. They got their own problems like everyone else I guess, even rich companies. Then the money guy, Bruno Meier, he was in charge for a bit. That was the same year, 2009. It’s all a big mess, who’s in charge, who’s not. Don’t matter much to me, long as my old clock on the wall keeps tickin’.
- Rolex, big fancy watch.
- Jean-Frederic Dufour, big boss now.
- Started in 1905, long time ago.
- Hans Wilsdorf, he started it.
- From Switzerland.
Heard this Jean-Frederic fella worked in Hong Kong one time, but only for a little while. Hong Kong, that’s far away! That’s where they got them tall buildings, I saw it on the TV once. Don’t know what he was doin’ over there, probably something to do with money. They all want that money.
This Rolex place, they say it’s owned by some foundation thing. Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, that’s what they call it. Sounds fancy. Probably a bunch of rich folks puttin’ their money together, making more money. That’s how it works, I reckon. The rich get richer, ain’t that what they say?

But this Jean-Frederic, he’s the one runnin’ the show in Geneva. That’s in Switzerland too, another big city, I suppose. They got all the big shots there, making big decisions. Big decisions about them little watches. Funny, ain’t it?
These Rolex watches, they’re everywhere, you know. You see them on TV, in them magazines, on the wrists of them fancy folks. I guess if you got the money, you want to show it off. I wouldn’t know, never had that kind of money.
They say it is a private company, this Rolex. I don’t know what that means, maybe not on that stock market thingy? Some companies are on that, some ain’t. Just means some rich guys own it, but not the public.
- Rolex is private.
- Owned by a foundation.
- Jean-Frederic runs things in Geneva.
- They make lots of watches.
- Expensive watches.
They make a lot of these watches, I hear. Thousands and thousands. All those little parts, all those little hands moving around. Must be hard work putting them all together. I can barely thread a needle these days, let alone put together one of them fancy watches.
This CEO of Rolex, this Jean-Frederic, he’s probably got a lot on his plate. Gotta make sure them watches are made right, gotta make sure they sell, gotta make sure everyone’s happy. It’s a big job, being the boss of a big company like that.

Well, that’s all I know about that Rolex and their big boss, Jean-Frederic Dufour. It’s a whole world away from my little life, that’s for sure. But it’s interesting to hear about, I suppose. Keeps my mind busy. Now, where did I put my glasses?
