Okay, so I’ve been totally obsessed with Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s style lately. It’s just so effortlessly chic and timeless, you know? I decided to try and recreate some of her iconic looks, and let me tell you, it was a journey!

Digging for Inspiration

First, I spent hours, and I mean hours, scrolling through pictures online. I created a massive mood board, pinning everything I could find – street style shots, event photos, everything. It was a lot of black, white, and neutral tones. Super minimalist, but always with this polished, sophisticated vibe.

The Closet Raid

Next, I dove into my own closet. I figured I needed some basics to build on, right? I pulled out all my black pants – wide-leg, cigarette, even some that were kinda borderline “going out” pants. I grabbed my white button-down shirts (thank goodness I had a few!), a simple black turtleneck, and any camel-colored sweaters I could find. It was… a mixed bag. Some stuff worked, some stuff definitely didn’t.

Shopping Spree (Oops!)

Of course, I realized I was missing some key pieces. Carolyn was all about quality, classic items. So, I may have done a little online shopping. I focused on finding a really good quality white shirt – not too sheer, not too stiff. I also snagged a black slip dress, because that seemed like a Carolyn staple. I’m still on the hunt for the perfect pair of straight-leg jeans, though. It’s harder than you’d think!

Putting It All Together

This is where the real fun (and frustration!) began. I started trying to recreate specific outfits I’d seen.

  • The White Shirt + Black Pants Combo: This seemed easy enough, but getting the proportions right was tricky. I tried tucking the shirt in, leaving it out, half-tucked… it took a few tries to get that “effortlessly cool” look. A good belt helped a lot, I can say!
  • The Slip Dress + Blazer: This one was surprisingly easier. I found that the key was to keep the accessories minimal – simple black heels, a delicate necklace. It felt very elegant, even if I was just wearing it in my living room.
  • The Turtleneck + Jeans: I found the perfect black turtleneck at my closet, and a great pair of straight-leg jeans, the accessories was a pair of black sunglass. I felt so cool.

The Verdict?

It’s definitely a work in progress! Carolyn’s style is all about simplicity and quality, and those are two things I’m still working on. But it’s been so much fun experimenting and trying to channel her iconic style. I feel like I’ve learned a lot about putting together outfits that are both timeless and chic. I’m definitely going to keep playing around with it – maybe next I’ll tackle her outerwear game! Those coats were amazing. Wish me luck!
