Okay, so I saw this picture of Lupita Nyong’o, you know, the actress? And she was wearing this killer bright outfit. I thought, “I wanna try that!” I’m not usually a bright colors person, I stick to blacks, grays, you know, the safe stuff.

So, first, I looked through my closet. Nothing. Seriously, nothing even close to the vibrant colors she was rocking. I needed to go shopping.
I hit up a few stores, feeling totally out of my element. Everything seemed so loud. I almost gave up, honestly. Then, I saw this bright yellow top. It was… a lot. But I decided to just try it on.
The Fitting Room Experiment
- Tried the yellow top: It was…intense. But kind of fun?
- Found some bright blue pants: Okay, this was starting to feel like a costume.
- Paired them together: Surprisingly, I didn’t hate it. It was definitely a statement.
I ended up buying both the top and the pants. I figured, worst-case scenario, I could always wear them separately with something more toned down.
The next day, I decided to be brave and wear the full outfit to brunch with my friends. I felt a little self-conscious at first, but then…I got compliments! People actually liked it! It was definitely a conversation starter.
I learned that stepping outside of my comfort zone, even with something as simple as clothing, can be surprisingly rewarding. I might not become a full-time bright color convert, but I’m definitely more open to experimenting now. It’s all about having a bit of fun, right?
