Black Rainbow Hairstyles Ideas and Easy Hair Color Tricks

Okay, let’s dive into my little hair adventure! I’ve always loved experimenting with colors, and the “black rainbow” look caught my eye. It seemed like the perfect blend of edgy and fun. So, here’s how it went down:

First, I gathered all my supplies. This was crucial. I’m talking:

  • Black hair dye (obviously!) – I went with a semi-permanent one, just in case I messed up.
  • A bunch of rainbow-colored dyes. I picked vibrant shades of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
  • Bleach – only needed this for the underlayer where the rainbow would go.
  • Developer (to mix with the bleach).
  • Gloves – gotta protect those hands!
  • A mixing bowl and brush.
  • Old towels and a shirt I didn’t mind ruining.
  • Lots and lots of hair clips.

The Bleaching Process (Ugh!)

I started by sectioning my hair. This was probably the most tedious part. I separated the top layer, which would remain black, from the bottom layer, destined for rainbow glory. I clipped the top layer securely out of the way.

Then, I carefully made a very very thin section hair that I want to dye with rainbow color. Next, I mixed the bleach and developer according to the instructions (always follow the instructions, folks!). And with small amount, I applied the bleach to the bottom section, making sure every strand was coated, I applied these color on the thin hair sections one by one. This part was messy, and I definitely got some bleach on my neck (oops!).

I waited… and waited… and waited. Bleaching takes time, and you have to keep checking the color to make sure you don’t over-process your hair. Mine took a good 45 minutes to lift to a pale yellow, then repeat above steps to all the hair sections I want.

Finally, I rinsed out the bleach thoroughly and shampooed my hair with a special purple shampoo to tone down any brassiness.

Dyeing Time!

With the top section still clipped up, I applied the black dye to the rest of my hair. Easy peasy. I’ve dyed my hair black before, so this was familiar territory.

Now for the fun part! I applied each rainbow color to small, individual sections of the bleached hair. I started with red at the nape of my neck and worked my way up through the rainbow, ending with violet near the top. This took some serious patience and a steady hand.

Once all the colors were in, I let it sit for the recommended time (again, follow the instructions on your dye!).

The Big Reveal

I rinsed my hair with cool water until it ran clear. This took FOREVER. Seriously, be prepared for a long shower.

Finally, I dried and styled my hair. And… wow! I was pretty stoked with the results. The black was sleek and dark, and the hidden rainbow underneath was vibrant and awesome. It was exactly the look I was going for!

It’s a bit of a process, and it definitely takes some time and effort, but I think the black rainbow hairstyle is totally worth it. I’ve gotten so many compliments on it, and it just makes me feel… well, like a badass unicorn. Or something. Definitely a fun project if you’re up for a little hair challenge!
