So, I gotta tell you all about this thing I did recently. It was pretty wild, honestly. I was scrolling through Twitter, as one does, and I saw this post about Billy Porter being at the White House. I was like, “Wait, what? Billy Porter? At the White House?” I had to dive deeper into this.
First things first, I hit up Google. I needed the full story, you know? Turns out, it was for a Juneteenth concert. Juneteenth! I’ve been following Billy since his Kinky Boots days. I mean, that voice! And his style? Always on point. This time, he was wearing this rainbow sequined caftan. A caftan! Only Billy could pull that off at the White House. And he totally did.
I spent the next hour just reading articles and watching videos about the event. It was so cool to see him there, representing. I found out he is an HIV-positive Black gay man in his 50s, which I didn’t know before. It made me admire him even more. Then, it got me thinking about his career. I went down another rabbit hole, haha. I was checking out his old Broadway stuff. Did you know he was in the original Miss Saigon back in ’91? His breakthrough was in ’94, wow, that’s a long time ago.
While I was deep in this Billy Porter appreciation session, I stumbled upon some chatter about him possibly selling his house. I guess even famous actors face tough times when there’s a dry spell in projects. Life, right? It’s a tough world out there, but I know he’ll get through it. He’s got talent, and he’s got his husband, Adam Smith, by his side. I read they met way back in 2009 and got hitched in 2017. Sweet, right?
- Then there’s also this recent song he sang on a radio show. It was something he wrote back in 1999 called “Love the Pain Away.” Pretty good!
- And I had to laugh at one article talking about him and Harry Styles. There was one comment saying, why does everyone think Harry is straight? But Harry said he doesn’t like to label his sexuality. This made me laugh.
- Another thing is that he is going to play James Baldwin in a movie. I’m so excited about this!
Anyway, by the end of the day, I felt like I’d gone on a whole journey with Billy Porter. From his early Broadway days to rocking a caftan at the White House, it was quite the ride. And you know what? It made my day a little brighter. I even shared some of my findings on my social media and talked about it with my friends. It was just too good not to share. Billy Porter, man. What a legend!
