Okay, so I’ve been trying to get this side part thing down, and let me tell you, it’s been a journey. I thought, “How hard could it be?” Famous last words, right?

First, I washed my hair. I figured a clean slate was the way to go. Used my usual shampoo and conditioner, nothing fancy.
Then came the combing. I tried to find my “natural” part, which, honestly, I’m not even sure exists. My hair just kind of does its own thing. I ended up with a zig-zag mess that looked like a toddler attacked my head with a comb.
- Attempt #1: Disaster.
- Attempt #2: Slightly less disastrous, but still not great.
I grabbed a mirror – a handheld one, so I could see the back of my head. This is where things got real. I started trying to force a part on the side, but my hair was having none of it. It kept flopping back to the middle, like it was magnetically attracted to my center part.
Next, I whipped out the hair products. I tried some gel, thinking it would give me some hold. Nope. Just made my hair look greasy and stiff. Then, I sprayed some hairspray, hoping for a miracle. It helped a little, but my part still looked…off.
The “Aha!” Moment
After what felt like hours, I decided to try something different. I dampened my hair again slightly, then I use a small tooth comb, combed it all to one side, then I use the point end of the comb to start a straight part line, from front to back. I finally realized I can control where the part is. Brushed the hair on each side of the part and let it air dry, the hair now stay on it’s on side.

It wasn’t perfect, but it was a definite improvement. It looked like an actual side part! I added a tiny bit more hairspray, just to be safe, and called it a win.
So, yeah, that’s my side part saga. It took way longer than it should have, but I finally got there. I still have a bit practice to do, but it’s a lot better that before.
