So, I’ve been trying to recreate Belle’s dress from “Beauty and the Beast”. You know, the blue one she wears in the village? It’s a classic, right? I’ve always loved that dress, it’s so simple yet so pretty.

I started by looking up some references online. I found a bunch of pictures of the dress, and some were of official Disney costumes and merch. “Disguise Disney Princess Belle Beauty the Beast Blue Dress Costume” was something I saw a lot. It was helpful to see the different versions of the dress, even though I wanted to make my own.
Then I went to the fabric store to find the right materials. I needed a light blue fabric for the main part of the dress, and a white fabric for the apron and the shirt. It took me a while to find the perfect shade of blue, but I eventually found one that looked just right. Finding the white fabric was easy peasy.
Next, I had to find a pattern. I couldn’t find one specifically for Belle’s blue dress, so I had to get creative. I ended up buying a couple of different patterns for similar-looking dresses and I mixed and matched the pieces. It was like putting together a puzzle! I also found a pattern for an apron and a simple white shirt. That is simple.
Sewing the dress together was the hardest part. I’m not a professional seamstress, so it took me a lot of time and patience. There were a few moments when I wanted to give up, especially when I messed up the sleeves and had to redo them. Ugh, that was frustrating! But I kept going, and slowly but surely, the dress started to take shape.
The most fun part was adding the details. I wanted to make the dress as accurate as possible, so I spent a lot of time looking at the references again. It turns out Belle’s dress is pretty simple, it’s just a blue dress with a white shirt underneath and a white apron on top.

Finally, after many hours of work, the dress was finished! I tried it on, and I was so happy with how it turned out. It wasn’t perfect, but it looked just like Belle’s dress, and I felt like a princess when I wore it. The blue is the perfect color, and the white shirt and apron complete the look.
I’ve worn the dress to a few different events, and I always get a lot of compliments on it. It’s definitely one of my favorite things I’ve ever made. And you know what? Making this dress made me realize how much work goes into creating costumes, especially for movies. I was reading about how Jacqueline Durran designed the costumes for the live-action “Beauty and the Beast” and wow, she’s amazing.
So, yeah, that’s the story of how I made Belle’s blue dress. It was a lot of work, but it was totally worth it. I learned a lot about sewing, and I had a lot of fun in the process. If you’re thinking about making your own costume, I say go for it! It’s a really rewarding experience.
