Are any missing faberge eggs still findable? Learn which ones might just turn up next.

Alright, let’s talk about those infamous missing Faberge eggs. It still makes me chuckle, and sigh, a little bit when I think about that whole saga. It’s one of those stories from the trenches, you know?

The Shiny Dream of Digital Eggs

So, picture this: we had this grand vision. We were going to introduce these incredibly detailed, interactive Faberge eggs into our project. Each one was supposed to be unique, a little masterpiece, full of lore and maybe even unlocking special little things. The hype was real, at least internally. We spent weeks, months even, on concept art, design documents that were practically novels, and presentations that made them sound like the best thing since sliced bread. Everyone was nodding, saying “revolutionary,” “game-changer,” all that jazz.

Then Reality Decided to Show Up

But then, well, the actual making of these eggs began. And that’s where the dream started to crumble, bit by bit. It wasn’t one single thing, more like a perfect storm of “oops.”

  • The team working on the 3D models was in a different city from the guys coding the interactions. Emails and vague Slack messages were their main form of communication. You can imagine how well that went.
  • Our main creative lead, the one who dreamt up the eggs, suddenly left for a “better opportunity” halfway through. Left a big, egg-shaped hole, that did.
  • The tools we were using? Let’s just say they weren’t exactly cutting edge. More like rusty and prone to crashing if you looked at them funny. Trying to get these intricate designs to work felt like performing surgery with a butter knife.
  • And then, of course, the deadlines. Always the deadlines. “Just get it done,” became the mantra, quality be damned.

So, what we ended up with was… not quite the vision. Some eggs looked okay from a distance, but get too close and you’d see the cracks. Others were buggy as all heck. Some just, well, didn’t show up at all. Poof. Missing in action.

My Front-Row Seat to the Scramble

Now, you might be wondering how I know all these nitty-gritty details, why I sound a bit like I’ve got egg-related PTSD. Simple: I was the poor soul who got handed the “Faberge Egg Integration Task Force Lead” title. Sounds fancy, right? It basically meant I was the one trying to glue all the broken pieces together with spit and hope, while also being the punching bag for everyone else.

I remember countless late nights, staring at code that made no sense, trying to figure out why an egg was turning players’ screens purple. I’d be on calls with the art team, who were frustrated their beautiful designs looked like melted crayons in the actual build, and then with the management, who just wanted to know, “Are they done yet? The marketing material already went out!”

There was this one week, right before the supposed launch of the egg feature, where I think I slept about ten hours in total. We were patching patches. Finding one missing egg meant another two would disappear. It was a nightmare. I’d go home smelling of stale coffee and desperation. My partner at the time actually asked if I was having an affair with a Faberge egg, I was that obsessed and stressed.

The worst part was knowing it didn’t have to be this way. With a bit more planning, better communication, and realistic expectations, those eggs could have been amazing. But no, it was all rush, rush, rush, and then blame, blame, blame when it all went pear-shaped.

Eventually, the whole feature was quietly “postponed indefinitely,” which is corporate speak for “let’s never talk about this again.” Some remnants of the broken eggs still lingered in the code for ages, like little digital ghosts. I actually found one myself a year later, just floating in an unused test area, a sad reminder of what could have been.

That whole experience, though? It taught me a heck of a lot about project management, or rather, how not to do it. And it’s precisely why, when a similar kind of chaotic energy started brewing at my next gig, I knew the signs. This time, I decided to look for the exit before I ended up in charge of another set of missing Faberge eggs. Life’s too short for that kind of stress, you know?
