Alexander McQueen 1998: Explore the Genius Behind the Show.

Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with fashion shows lately, and I stumbled upon this gem – the Alexander McQueen 1998 show. You guys, it’s wild! I had to try and recreate, you know, experience it somehow. So here’s how it all went down.

Alexander McQueen 1998: Explore the Genius Behind the Show.

Diving into the Archives

First, I spent, like, hours just watching videos of the show. I mean, it’s from 1998, so the quality isn’t amazing, but it’s enough. I scoured everything I could find online. The show is called “Joan”, and it’s all dark and gothic, inspired by Joan of Arc, I guess.

I focused on a few key things:

  • The red contact lenses. Seriously creepy and cool.
  • The makeup – pale skin, strong brows, almost no lip color.
  • The hair – super sleek and pulled back, sometimes with these weird, like, horn things.
  • The clothes, obviously! Lots of black, leather, some chainmail-looking stuff. Very structured and dramatic.

Operation McQueen Makeover

Next up was trying to, you know, actually do something with all this. I don’t have a runway or anything, so my bedroom had to do. I started with makeup. The pale skin was easy – I’m naturally pretty pale. I darkened my eyebrows a ton, which felt weird, but it looked right. I skipped lipstick and just put on some concealer. That was a first for me!

The hair was trickier. I have long hair, so I slicked it back with a ton of gel. I tried to make those little horn shapes, but it was a total fail. They just looked like lumpy bumps. Oh well. I settled for a super tight ponytail.

I couldn’t find red contacts anywhere, sadly. Huge bummer. That would have really completed the look.

The Clothes: Improv Time

Now, for the outfit. I don’t own any chainmail, shockingly. So I raided my closet for anything black and dramatic. I found a long black skirt, a black leather jacket, and a black turtleneck. It wasn’t exactly McQueen, but it had the right vibe, I think.

The “Show”

Then I did the dorkiest thing ever, I’m a little embarrased of that. I set up my phone to record and strutted around my room, trying to channel my inner runway model. I put on some dark, dramatic music and just went for it. It was SO awkward, but also kind of fun. I even tried to do that intense stare that the models do. I probably just looked constipated.

Final Thoughts

It wasn’t perfect, obviously. I’m no Alexander McQueen, and my bedroom is no Parisian runway. But it was a fun way to engage with something I’m fascinated by. It made me appreciate the artistry of the show even more. Plus, now I have some killer (and slightly embarrassing) videos to look back on. Maybe I’ll try another show recreation soon! Any suggestions?
