Okay, so I was digging around the internet the other day, bumped into this name, Aishwarya Subramaniam. Turns out, she’s a big shot at AWS, a Sr. Solutions Architect, to be exact. She’s the go-to person for small and medium businesses and consultants in the AWS Partner Network. I thought, “Why not dive into this AWS thing and see what the fuss is all about?”

So, I started from scratch. Signed up for an AWS account, you know, the usual drill. I’ve heard about these “tips and tricks” to get started, so I went on a hunt for those. Found a bunch of articles talking about “10 crucial tips” and “15 tips and tricks” – figured that’s a good place to start.

First Steps

  • Signing up: Got myself an AWS account. It was pretty straightforward.
  • Free Tier: I learned that they have this Free Tier thing, which is great for a newbie like me. It’s like a sandbox to play around without getting charged.

Then, I got into the meat of it – compute resources. They call it Amazon EC2. Sounds fancy, huh? Basically, it’s like renting a computer in the cloud. I launched a small instance, just to test the waters. It was surprisingly easy, just a few clicks, and boom, I had a virtual server running.

Next up was this thing called VPC, which stands for Virtual Private Cloud. This one took a bit more time to figure out. It’s all about controlling your virtual network, like setting up your own little corner in the cloud. I followed a guide and managed to create a basic VPC setup. Felt pretty good, not gonna lie.

Experiment

I wanted to see if I could do something useful with all this. I’ve been hearing a lot about AI, and it turns out AWS has tools for that too. I stumbled upon something called “AI Investigator” that eSentire built. It was way out of my league, but it gave me an idea. Why not try some simple machine learning stuff?

I used one of their pre-built models, just to get a feel for it. Uploaded some data, ran the model, and got some results. It wasn’t anything groundbreaking, but hey, it was something! And it got me thinking about all the possibilities.

Cost Concerns

Now, I’m not made of money, so I was a bit worried about the costs. Found this whole section on AWS cost management. They have tools to monitor your spending and even set up alerts. I set up a budget, just to be safe. Learned about optimizing costs by choosing the right instance types and all that jazz. It’s a whole other world, this cost management thing.

Exploring Further

I also found some resources to keep up with what’s new in AWS. They have this podcast called “AWS Insiders.” I listened to a couple of episodes, and they were talking to some product leads at Amazon. Pretty cool to hear directly from the people building this stuff.

There’s also this thing called “AWS Business Day 2022.” I think it was a virtual event. I found some recordings of it online. Lots of big names talking about best practices and the latest trends. It was a bit overwhelming, but I picked up a few interesting tidbits.

So, that’s my journey into the world of AWS so far, inspired by Aishwarya Subramaniam’s work. It’s been a wild ride, from setting up basic instances to dabbling with AI and fretting over costs. I’ve barely scratched the surface, but I’m excited to see where this takes me. It’s like a whole new universe of tech opened up to me. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll be building cool stuff in the cloud just like Aishwarya!
