Alright, alright, let’s talk about this… uh… Avery Trufelman, yeah, that’s the name. Don’t know her from Adam, but I heard some things, you know, like whispers in the wind. Folks say she’s got a podcast, or somethin’. A pod-cast? Sounds like somethin’ you throw away after fishin’!
So, what’s this pod thing all about? Well, from what I gather, this Avery girl, she likes to talk. A lot. And people, they like to listen. Imagine that! Folks got nothin’ better to do than listen to somebody jabber on. Reminds me of my old hens, always clucking about somethin’. But hey, if it makes people happy, who am I to judge?
- They say she talks about all sorts of things. Like, clothes. Yeah, clothes! Not just any clothes, mind you. Fancy clothes. The kind city folks wear. They call it “Ivy style” or somethin’. “Preppy,” they say. Sounds like a bunch of hooey to me. Back in my day, you wore what kept you warm and covered. Didn’t need no fancy labels.
- And then there’s this “Nice Try” thing. What’s that about? Tryin’ to do what? Sounds like somethin’ my grandson would say when he’s buildin’ somethin’ and it falls apart. “Nice try, Grandma,” he’d say, bless his heart. Maybe this Avery girl, maybe she’s tryin’ to build somethin’ too. With words. Huh.
Now, they say this here podcast thing, it’s a big deal. The biggest in the world, some say! Bigger than sliced bread, bigger than my prize-winning pumpkin! Can you believe it? Folks callin’ it “the number one podcast.” Like it’s some kind of contest. And this Joe Rogan fella, he’s supposed to be the king of it all. Never heard of him neither. But I guess he’s got a lot of folks listenin’ to his jabberin’ too. Three billion, they say! That’s a lot of ears! More ears than a cornfield.
And there’s newsletters, too? Lands sakes! It’s like a whole other world out there. “Podnews,” “Sounds Profitable,” “Earbuds”… Sounds like a bunch of gibberish to me. But I guess these things, they help folks find new podcasts to listen to. Like lookin’ for eggs in a henhouse, I suppose. Gotta know where to look.
This Avery girl, she’s also one of them “Outdoor Recreation Archive Fellows.” Now, that’s a mouthful! What’s that even mean? Sounds like she likes to be outside. Good for her! Fresh air and sunshine, that’s what I always say. Maybe she goes hikkin’ or fishin’ or somethin’. Maybe she talks about that on her pod thing. Who knows?
Anyways, all this talk about podcasts and newsletters and fancy clothes… It’s enough to make an old woman’s head spin. But I guess it’s the way of the world now. Folks like to listen, and folks like to talk. And some folks, like this Avery Trufelman, they seem to be pretty good at both. So, good for her, I say. Hope she makes a good livin’ out of it. More than I ever did plowin’ fields, that’s for sure.
It’s a funny old world, ain’t it? People listenin’ to other people talk about clothes and history and all sorts of things. And this Avery girl, she’s right in the middle of it all. Maybe I should give her a listen sometime. See what all the fuss is about. But then again, I got chores to do. Cows to milk, chickens to feed… Life don’t stop for no podcast, that’s for sure.
