Black Dress Style: Selena Gomez Shows You How to Rock It!

Okay, so I saw this picture of Selena Gomez in a black dress, and I was like, “I wanna try drawing that!” I’m no pro artist or anything, just someone who likes to doodle, you know?

Black Dress Style: Selena Gomez Shows You How to Rock It!

Getting Started

First, I grabbed my sketchbook – it’s just a regular one, nothing fancy. And my pencils. I have a bunch of different ones, from super light to really dark. I also got my eraser, ’cause, let’s be real, I mess up a lot.

The Sketching Process

I started by lightly sketching out the basic shapes. Like, her head was kind of an oval, and her body was, well, a curvy shape. I’m not great with anatomy, so I just did my best to get the proportions right-ish. It looked kinda wonky at first, I’m not gonna lie.

  • Drew a light oval for the head.
  • Sketched out the general body shape.
  • Tried to figure out where the dress started and ended.

Then, I started adding in some details. Like, I drew the outline of the dress, trying to get the folds and the way it draped right. This was tricky! Black dresses are simple, but the shadows and highlights are what make them look good, so I knew I’d have to work on that.

Working on the Details

I focused on her face for a bit. I tried to get her eyes and her lips right. I’m not super good at drawing faces, but I think I did okay. It kinda looked like her… maybe? I kept erasing and redrawing the eyes, they’re always the hardest part for me.

Shading and Finishing Up

This is where it got interesting. I started shading the dress, trying to make it look like, you know, fabric. I used darker pencils for the areas where there were shadows, and lighter pencils for the parts where the light hit. I also added some shading to her face and hair, to give it some dimension.

I kept going back and forth, adding a little shading here, erasing a bit there. It’s a process, you know? It’s not like you just draw it perfectly the first time. At least, I don’t!

Finally, I stepped back and looked at it. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot. But it kinda looked like Selena Gomez in a black dress! And that’s good enough for me. It was fun to try, and that’s all that really matters, right?
